Buckinghamshire Adult Learning offers a wide range of flexible courses designed to help adults develop new skills, improve confidence, and support their personal and professional goals. About the role

As a Family Learning Officer, you will work closely with schools, Family Centres, and community partners to deliver high-quality learning programmes for families with children aged 4–11. Your work will focus on developing parents’ confidence, improving English and maths skills, and encouraging a positive attitude towards learning within the home.

This is a varied and people-focused role, combining teaching, programme planning, and partnership working. You’ll lead courses and workshops in school and community settings, helping families build the skills they need to support their children’s education and improve their own life chances. You will also play a key role in identifying community needs and shaping learning provision to ensure it reaches those who need it most.

Key responsibilities include:

Delivering engaging family learning courses and workshops in schools and community settings
Teaching a minimum of two courses per week during term time
Planning and coordinating a programme of learning activities to meet enrolment and delivery targets
Working in partnership with schools, Family Centres, and local organisations
Supporting parents on their learning journey and signposting further opportunities and services
Responding to community needs, particularly in areas of deprivation or low educational attainment

Mobile:

A ‘mobile’ role gives you the flexibility to schedule your own diary, so you can meet with colleagues and clients in a variety of locations. You’ll access digital folders and resources on your laptop and be able to use the network wherever you are based. Working from home will be common, as well as meeting your team in the office where necessary.

About you

We’re looking for a passionate, motivated and community-driven individual who is committed to improving outcomes for children and families. You’ll be confident working with both adults and children, with the ability to inspire, engage and build positive relationships across diverse communities.

You will be an excellent communicator with strong organisational skills, able to plan and deliver learning programmes effectively while collaborating with a wide range of partners. A proactive and empathetic approach is essential, along with the ability to support individuals with varying levels of confidence and ability.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

Experience working with school-aged children and an understanding of the school curriculum
Experience supporting adults or parents in developing their skills and confidence
The ability to plan and deliver engaging courses or workshops
Strong communication, organisational and IT skills
The ability to build and maintain effective partnerships
City and Guilds7303 Award in Education and Training (or obtained within 6 months) or relevant teaching qualification.
Level 2 English and Maths (or equivalent)
