JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Home Visitor

Reporting to: The Chief Officer

Location: The Old Town Hall, Epsom, Surrey / Outreach Epsom & Ewell Home Visits

Overview:

Age Concern Epsom & Ewell (ACEE) is a small local charity doing ‘big’ work focusing on empowering older people to live the most fulfilling lives they can. We provide vital Information & Advice (incl. home visits), Medical Transport Scheme, Befriending, Men’s club, Sunday Teas, DIY & IT support.

The role holder’s main responsibilities are to support the older members of our community in the borough to apply for benefits by visiting them in their own home and providing impartial and confidential information and advice. You will work as part of a passionate team with strong local knowledge and have empathy for the older generation with an understanding of the problems today’s society brings to them.

Key responsibilities:

Work closely with the ACEE Information & Advice team to support those older members of our community who receive a state pension and pay their council tax to Epsom & Ewell Borough council.
Assist with welfare benefits form filling e.g. Attendance Allowance, Blue Badge, Pension Credit in the client’s own home.
Listen, evaluate and assess client’s circumstances and provide information and advice.
Refer clients to other ACEE services, statutory and voluntary organisations as appropriate, to support their health and wellbeing.
Maintain accurate confidential case records on ACEE data base.
Comply with UK GDPR, confidentiality requirements and ACEE’s data protection policies.
Provide ongoing support when necessary.
Monitor and evaluate service provisions.
Report to Chief Officer quarterly highlighting achievements of the service.

Person specification:

Understanding the issues and needs affecting older people and their carers.
Knowledge of the statutory UK welfare benefits system.
Able to travel independently around the Borough of Epsom & Ewell and deliver home visits. Access to suitable transport is required.
Excellent organisational skills to work to a schedule of appointments.
Interpersonal skills with a friendly, outgoing personality.
Good communications skills with an empathetic approach.
Adaptable to different situations and people.
Practical approach to solving problems.
Good listening skills.
Team player able to work on own initiative.
Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities relating to older and vulnerable adults.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

Essential:

Proficient in Microsoft Office software.
Experience of using databases.
Car driver with a valid Licence.
Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check.
Employment is subject to proof of the right to work in the UK.
A commitment to ACEE safeguarding policies and procedures will be required.

Preferred:

Experience of completing relevant forms for Welfare Benefits for those receiving a state pension.
Knowledge of the local community.

Salary: £16,000 per annum

Hours: 21 Hours Per Week Part Time. Fixed Term Contract for 12 Months
