Reporting To: Directors of P&E Sports
Hours: Flexible working pattern including evenings, weekends and school holidays in line with operational and programme requirements.
The role will primarily be based around a flexible 40-hour working week.

This role will play a key part in helping shape the future development of the centre and its impact within the local community by creating programmes that deliver genuine community benefit and long-term engagement.
THE ROLE
This is not a standard sports coaching role. We are looking for someone who can develop programmes, build relationships, manage coaches and create engaging activities that have a genuine impact within the community.
The successful candidate will play a key role in growing participation and helping Northstowe Sports Centre become a vibrant community hub for children, young people and local residents, including growing participation numbers, increasing community partnerships, developing sustainable programmes and supporting revenue growth across the centre.
The primary focus of the position is the development and growth of sports, wellbeing and community programmes across Northstowe Sports Centre.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute towards participation growth, community engagement, programme sustainability and revenue development, whilst helping create a positive and welcoming environment for all users of the facility.
The role exists to help transform Northstowe Sports Centre into a vibrant hub for sport, wellbeing and community engagement during evenings, weekends and school holidays.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Programme Development
– Develop and grow community activities and programmes
– Create new sports clubs and coaching sessions
– Develop youth club provision and positive activities
– Organise and oversee holiday camps
– Develop birthday party packages and community events
– Deliver and support school-based provision
– Create intervention and mentoring opportunities including 1-2-1 support
– Explore new opportunities outside of traditional sports provision
– Monitor participation levels and support programme growth strategies
– Develop sustainable programmes that support long-term community engagement
– Identify opportunities to increase participation, retention and revenue across activities
– Identify gaps in community activity provision and develop relevant programmes in response to local demand.
– Develop programmes such as youth clubs, fitness sessions, sports coaching, holiday camps, wellbeing initiatives and community events
– Deliver and support sessions directly where required, including holiday camps, community activities and youth provision
Coaching & Staff Management
– Recruit, train and support coaches and activity staff
– Manage and lead a team of coaches
– Ensure sessions are delivered to a high standard
– Support coach development and mentoring
– Maintain high safeguarding and behaviour standards
– Assist with staff rotas, staffing cover and operational planning where required
– Lead by example in professionalism, safeguarding and session delivery standards
Community Engagement
– Build strong relationships with schools, parents and local organisations
– Engage with young people and identify community needs
– Support pathways into sport, wellbeing and positive activities
– Help create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all users
– Develop partnerships with local schools, organisations and community groups
– Support initiatives that improve accessibility and inclusivity within community sport and wellbeing provision
Marketing & Growth
– Support the promotion of activities through social media, flyers and school engagement
– Help increase participation across programmes
– Assist with the development of marketing campaigns and new ideas
– Support community outreach and engagement
– Support the promotion of activities through social media, school engagement, digital marketing and community outreach
– Assist in developing marketing campaigns to increase awareness and participation
– Support customer retention and repeat engagement strategies
– Help analyse programme performance, attendance trends and community engagement levels
– Contribute ideas that support growth, innovation and long-term sustainability across the centre
– Build positive relationships with users, parents, schools and community stakeholders
– Represent P&E Sports positively at community events, school activities and local engagement opportunities
– Support school engagement initiatives including assemblies, promotional visits and student engagement activities
Funding & Development
– Identify potential funding opportunities
– Support and potentially lead on writing funding bids and grant applications
– Help develop projects that can secure external investment into community programmes
– Support the development of community initiatives that align with local needs and funding priorities
General Responsibilities
– Support the day-to-day operation of activities and programmes
– Ensure activities are safe, organised and well managed
– Complete registers, reports and operational paperwork where required
– Work flexibly across evenings, weekends and school holidays
– Act as a positive ambassador for P&E Sports and Northstowe Sports Centre at all times
– Maintain high standards of professionalism, communication and presentation
– Ensure all safeguarding, health & safety and operational procedures are followed consistently
– Maintain accurate records, registers and programme reporting documentation
– Work collaboratively with the wider management and operational team to support the continued growth of the venue
– Ensure programmes and activities align with the wider objectives of P&E Sports around community engagement, wellbeing and participation growth
– Provide occasional support to the leisure centre operation as a back-up Duty Officer where required, for example during staff absence, emergencies or periods of operational need. This would not form a regular or primary part of the role.
REQUIREMENTS
Essential
– Minimum Level 2 Coaching/relevant qualification
– Experience working with children and young people
– Experience delivering sports, youth or community activities
– Strong communication and organisational skills
– Ability to lead and motivate others
– Passion for community engagement and positive activities
– Understanding of safeguarding and child protection
– Ability to work independently and use initiative
– Appointment will be subject to Right-to-work, Enhanced DBS clearance and satisfactory references.
– Experience working within a sports, leisure, education or community environment
– Ability to manage multiple projects, programmes and priorities effectively
– Confident communicating with a wide range of stakeholders including parents, schools and community organisations
Desirable
– Experience managing staff or coaches
– Experience developing new programmes or projects
– Experience working with schools or community organisations
– Experience writing funding bids or grant applications
– Full UK driving licence
– Experience supporting revenue-generating programmes or activities
– Experience using leisure booking or membership systems
– Experience supporting social media or community marketing initiatives
– Experience using Canva, social media platforms or digital marketing tools
