3 months contract with a Local Authority

Job Title: Plumber – Repairs & Maintenance

Job Purpose

To provide a high-quality responsive repairs and maintenance service to council-owned residential properties across Charnwood. The post holder will undertake plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installation work, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard of workmanship. The role requires a customer-focused individual who is committed to improving local communities and delivering excellent services to tenants.

Key Responsibilities

Plumbing Repairs and Maintenance

Carry out reactive plumbing repairs and maintenance within council tenanted properties.
Diagnose faults and identify appropriate repair solutions.
Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems, fixtures, and fittings.
Repair leaks, pipes, taps, toilets, sinks, baths, showers, and drainage systems.
Complete work to a high standard, ensuring quality workmanship and customer satisfaction.

Customer Service

Provide excellent customer service and maintain positive relationships with tenants.
Communicate effectively with residents regarding repairs, work progress, and completion.
Work respectfully within occupied properties, minimising disruption to tenants.
Respond professionally to customer queries and service requests.

Health and Safety

Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety legislation, policies, and procedures.
Use tools, equipment, and materials safely and appropriately.
Maintain a safe and tidy working environment at all times.
Report hazards, defects, or risks promptly.

Team Working

Work collaboratively with colleagues within the repairs and maintenance team.
Support other trade operatives where required.
Participate in team meetings, training, and development activities.
Contribute to service improvements and best practice initiatives.

General Duties

Complete work orders and associated paperwork accurately and within required timescales.
Maintain stock levels and ensure materials are used efficiently.
Ensure council vehicles, tools, and equipment are maintained in good condition.
Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade and responsibilities of the post.

Experience

Essential

Proven experience carrying out domestic plumbing repairs and maintenance.
Experience working within occupied residential properties.
Experience diagnosing and resolving plumbing faults.
Experience delivering excellent customer service.
Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
Experience working as part of a maintenance or repairs team.

Desirable

Experience working in a social housing or local authority environment.
Experience in responsive repairs and property maintenance.
Knowledge of additional building maintenance trades.

Qualifications

Essential

NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification in Plumbing.
Valid qualification demonstrating competence in plumbing installation and maintenance.
Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable

NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing or related trade qualification.
Health and Safety qualification (such as CSCS card).
Additional trade qualifications relevant to property maintenance.

Skills and Competencies

Excellent plumbing and fault-finding skills.
Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Customer-focused approach.
Good problem-solving skills.
Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.

Additional Information

Location: Council Offices, Southfield Road, Loughborough, Leicestershire, LE11 2TX, United Kingdom.
Hours: 37 hours per week.
Pay Rate: £18.21 per hour (Limited Company/Umbrella).
Contract Type: Temporary/Agency Assignment.
Working Environment: The role involves travelling to and working within council-owned residential properties across the borough.
Customer Contact: Regular interaction with tenants is required, therefore a strong customer-focused approach and excellent communication skills are essential.
Health & Safety: All work must be carried out in accordance with current health and safety legislation, policies, and procedures.
Driving Requirement: A full UK driving licence may be required to travel between properties and locations.
Equipment & Vehicle: Council-provided tools, equipment, and vehicles (where applicable) must be maintained and used responsibly.
