Full job description

Overview

As a Yard Assistant / Forklift Operative at Alsford Head Office in Erith, you will play a vital role in supporting the smooth and efficient operation of our central warehouse and distribution function. This role has a strong focus on forklift operation, stock movement, loading and unloading vehicles, and maintaining a safe and organised yard environment.

You will be responsible for handling building materials safely and efficiently while supporting the wider warehouse and transport teams to ensure deliveries and collections are completed accurately and on time. Reliability, attention to detail, and a strong awareness of health and safety procedures are essential in this fast-paced operational role.

Duties

We are looking for a proactive and safety-conscious Yard Assistant / Forklift Operative to join our busy Head Office team in Erith. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working in a warehouse and yard environment and is confident operating forklift trucks as part of their daily responsibilities.

Hours

Monday to Friday 42 hours per week

What you’ll be doing:

Safely operate forklift trucks to load, unload, move, and store building materials across the yard and warehouse areas.
Support the efficient movement of stock throughout the Head Office site.
Accurately prepare customer and branch orders for collection and delivery.
Load and unload supplier and company vehicles safely and efficiently.
Assist with checking deliveries and reporting any discrepancies or damages.
Ensure stock is stored correctly and safely, maintaining high standards of organisation throughout the yard.
Work closely with the warehouse, transport, and branch teams to support daily operations.
Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe working environment at all times.
Carry out daily forklift and equipment checks, reporting any faults promptly.
Follow all company health and safety procedures and safe working practices.
Represent Alsford professionally and positively at all times.
Take part in ongoing training and development opportunities.

What we’re looking for:

Previous forklift operating experience preferred.
Valid forklift licence/certification desirable.
Experience working within a builders merchant, warehouse, or yard environment is beneficial.
Good awareness of health and safety procedures.
Reliable, hardworking, and able to work as part of a team.
Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £26,880.00-£28,000.00 per year
