Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Residential Child Care Practitioner to join our team. This vital role involves providing high-quality care and support to children and young people within a residential care setting. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a compassionate approach to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of young residents. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable children while working within a supportive and professional environment.

Honeycomb Care Children’s Service are a dedicated and compassionate children’s residential care provider supporting young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD). We provide a safe, stable, and trauma-informed therapeutic environment where children are supported to heal, develop resilience, and achieve positive long-term outcomes.

Our organisation is led by an experienced and highly qualified management team with extensive backgrounds in children’s residential care, safeguarding, and therapeutic practice. This ensures strong leadership, clear accountability, and consistently high standards of care.

We are committed to delivering care in line with the Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards, ensuring that children’s welfare, safety, and progress remain at the centre of everything we do.

We believe the voice of the child is paramount, and children are actively supported to participate in decisions about their care, daily routines, and future planning in line with their individual needs and communication abilities.

We also promote a culture where children are supported to express their emotions safely and freely, without fear of punitive or disproportionate responses. Emotional expression is understood through a trauma-informed lens, recognising behaviour as communication and responding with empathy, consistency, and therapeutic support.

The Role

As a Senior Residential Children’s Support Worker, you will play a key role in the day-to-day care, development, and safeguarding of children and young people within the home.

You will support the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager in delivering high-quality, consistent, and trauma-informed care, while also providing guidance and support to junior staff on shift.

This role is ideal for someone looking to progress their career into a Deputy Manager position.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality, trauma-informed care to children and young people with EBD
Act as a positive role model for children and staff
Support and guide junior staff on shift
Contribute to care planning, risk assessments, and key working
Promote safeguarding and ensure children’s welfare is always prioritised
Support positive behaviour approaches rooted in therapeutic practice
Encourage independence, education, and emotional wellbeing
Work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals

Qualifications & Experience

Experience in children’s residential care (EBD or similar setting)
Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection
Good understanding and application of safeguarding procedures
Ability to build safe, professional, and trusting relationships
Emotional resilience and a calm, consistent approach
Strong communication and emerging leadership skills
Commitment to trauma-informed, child-centred care

Qualifications

Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (essential or equivalent)
Level 4 Diploma in Residential Childcare (desirable or willingness to work towards)

Full training and development support will be provided.
