Full job description

Employer: Harborough District Children and Young People’s Charity (HCYC)
Location: Remote (UK based)
Hours: 6 hours per week
Salary: £16.88 + 6% employer pension
Contract: 6-month fixed contract, with potential for extension or permanency

HCYC’s safer recruitment practices are an essential part of safeguarding and protecting children, young people and vulnerable adults.

What’s in it for you

This is a remote, UK-based bookkeeping role supporting Harborough District Children and Young People’s Charity. Working 6 hours per week, you will help maintain accurate financial records and provide financial information that supports quarterly reporting to the Trustee Board, funder expenditure reports, year-end accounts preparation and charity budgeting.

You will be supported by the Charity Manager and the Treasurer, and will play an important role in ensuring financial information is accurate, up to date and available for key reporting and planning needs.

About the role

As Bookkeeper, you will maintain financial management systems and records using QuickBooks, ensuring they comply with financial requirements and relevant procedural and legal regulations. You will reconcile cash and nominal ledgers, maintain a rolling 12-month cashflow forecast, allocate costs and expenditure to the correct headings, and provide accurate information for project costs, budgets, funding and reports.

Key responsibilities

· Maintain financial management systems and records using QuickBooks.

· Reconcile cash and nominal ledgers on a regular basis.

· Maintain and update a rolling 12-month cashflow forecast.

· Allocate costs and expenditure to the correct headings and provide accurate project cost records.

· Provide income, expenditure, budget, funding and cashflow information for the Charity’s Treasurer, Charity Manager and Board of Trustees.

· Prepare year-end accounts in a suitable form for the Charity Commission, working closely with Independent Financial Examiners.

· Provide financial support and figures for the whole charity budget with the Charity Manager.

· Oversee funding budgets and costs with the Fundraising Manager.

About you

We are looking for someone with experience of bookkeeping and maintaining accurate financial records, including using QuickBooks, bank and ledger reconciliations, cashflow forecasting, budgeting and financial reporting. Knowledge and experience of working with not-for-profit or charity accounts and Charity SORP is essential.

You will have strong attention to detail, the ability to analyse financial information and identify discrepancies, and the ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial colleagues and Trustees. You will be highly organised, reliable, able to work independently, trustworthy, professional and committed to maintaining confidentiality and supporting the Charity’s work.

Qualifications

· A relevant bookkeeping or accounting qualification, such as AAT or ICB, or equivalent experience.

· Relevant training in accounting software, such as QuickBooks, would be desirable.
