Job Summary

Job Purpose

The role is based at The Valley's Care Home in Scunthorpe.

To support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day management of the care home, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, person-centred care.

The Deputy Manager plays a key role in maintaining standards, supporting staff performance, overseeing care delivery and ensuring the home operates effectively in line with regulatory and organisational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Leadership and Operational Support

Support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the home.
Take responsibility for the service in the absence of the Registered Manager.
Provide leadership and direction to staff, ensuring high standards of care are maintained.
Ensure effective communication and coordination across all shifts.

2. Quality and Compliance

Support the monitoring and maintenance of care quality through audits and checks.
Ensure care documentation is accurate, up to date and reflective of care delivered.
Assist with preparation for inspections and regulatory visits.
Support the investigation of incidents, complaints and concerns.

3. Person-Centred Care Delivery

Ensure residents receive care that is tailored to their individual needs, preferences and choices.
Monitor care delivery to ensure it is safe, effective and consistent.
Promote dignity, independence.

4. Safeguarding and Risk Management

Support the Registered Manager in maintaining effective safeguarding systems
Identify, report and respond to safeguarding concerns appropriately
Ensure risk assessments are in place and followed by staff
Promote a safe and supportive environment for residents

5. Staff Management and Development

Support recruitment, induction and training of staff
Provide supervision, guidance and day-to-day support to care staff
Monitor staff performance and raise concerns where standards are not met
Promote a positive and professional team culture

6. Communication and Stakeholder Engagement

Maintain effective communication with residents, relatives and staff
Respond to enquiries and concerns in a professional and timely manner
Support the Registered Manager in maintaining relationships with external professionals

7. Operational Oversight

Support rota management and staffing allocation to ensure safe coverage
Assist in managing occupancy, enquiries and admissions processes
Ensure the home environment is safe, clean and well maintained
Support the Registered Manager in monitoring KPIs and service performance

8. Governance and Continuous Improvement

Support the implementation of governance systems and quality improvement initiatives
Monitor trends in incidents, complaints and audits
Support the embedding of learning into practice
Contribute to service development and improvement

Person Specification

Experience

Experience working within a care home or similar regulated environment
Experience in a senior or supervisory role (e.g. Senior Care Assistant or equivalent)
Experience supporting staff and overseeing care delivery
Experience of working within a regulated service and understanding compliance requirements

Knowledge

Understanding of person-centred care
Awareness of safeguarding, risk management and care standards
Basic understanding of CQC requirements and compliance
Ability to prioritise and manage workload

Skills

Ability to lead and support a team
Good organisational and decision-making skills
Effective communication and problem-solving ability
