Purpose of the Role

To support the Rail Grinding & Milling management team in delivering safe, efficient, and high-performing operations, ensuring that rail grinding and milling assets consistently operate at optimum performance levels and achieve production targets.
As a key member of the Rail Grinding & Milling management team, the post holder is responsible for the effective delivery of operational shifts, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and performance standards while driving continuous improvement across the fleet.

The role also involves assessing, developing, and enhancing operator competence to maximise machine reliability, productivity, and efficiency, ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality rail treatment outputs that meet customer and business requirements.

The position is responsible for:

Leading Rail Grinding and Milling operations.
Maximising machine productivity and operational performance.
Managing and developing operational staff.
Ensuring safe, efficient, and profitable delivery of rail grinding and milling activities.
Acting as a key member of the RG-M management team, including on-call management responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Extensive Rail Grinding and/or Milling experience
Strong operational leadership
Competence management and training capability
Understanding of railhead profile management techniques
PTS and railway operational knowledge
Investigation and root cause analysis skills
Ability to improve performance, productivity, and safety.
Strong stakeholder management with Network Rail
