Full job description

We're looking for a Highways Maintenance Operative to join our Area 13 M&R team based in Lancashire.

Location: Preston - Garstang, PR3 0PL
Hours: 4 on, 4 off days & nights shift pattern, 12 hrs per day

We are unable to offer certificates of sponsorship to any candidates in this role.

Join our Area 13 M&R team working across the motorways and trunk roads in Cumbria and North Lancashire. You'll be part of a dedicated team delivering routine and cyclic maintenance, winter service, emergency response and reactive repair works. This is a varied role where you'll be making a real difference to the road network, supporting road users and keeping our highways safe and well-maintained.

What will you be responsible for?

As a Highways Maintenance Operative, you'll be working within the Area 13 M&R team, supporting them in delivering essential maintenance and emergency response across the network. Your day to day will include:

Carrying out routine maintenance activities including grass strimming, litter picking, sign cleaning and marker post replacement
Installing, maintaining and removing temporary traffic management where required
Undertaking severe weather duties such as gritting and flood clearance
Responding to incidents and working with Highways England to clear scenes quickly and safely
Promoting health and safety in the workplace and championing wellbeing within your team

You work well as part of a team and can also work independently with minimal supervision
You hold a Full driving licence
