Job Overview

Safer Rig Services is expanding, and we’re looking for a Drilling Rig Mechanic & Equipment Examiner who knows their way around heavy kit, understands the realities of site work, and takes pride in keeping rigs safe, compliant, and operational

This role sits at the heart of what we do: delivering competent, reliable inspection and maintenance services that meet the requirements of BS 16228:2012 – Drilling and Foundation Equipment Safety and support our clients across geotechnical, piling, ground investigation, and specialist drilling operations.---The RoleYou’ll be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, fault‑finding, and repair of drilling rigs and associated equipment, including but not limited to:

Rotary, cable percussion, and dynamic sampling rigs Hydraulic systems, mast structures, rotary heads, winches, and guarding Powerpacks, engines, pumps, hoses, and control systems Ancillary lifting accessories and rig‑mounted lifting points Safety systems, interlocks, emergency stops, and protective devices.

You will also carry out formal equipment examinations in line with BS 16228, producing clear, accurate reports and advising clients on corrective actions, compliance gaps, and safe operation.---Key Responsibilities Conduct scheduled and reactive maintenance on drilling rigs and plant Perform thorough examinations to BS 16228 and Safer Rig Services internal standards Identify defects, assess risk levels, and recommend remedial work Support clients with technical guidance on rig safety, operation, and compliance Maintain detailed inspection records and communicate findings professionally Uphold Safer Rig Services’ reputation for integrity, accuracy, and industry expertise---What We’re Looking For Strong mechanical background in drills, heavy plant, or hydraulic equipment Experience in geotechnical, piling, or ground investigation sectors (preferred) Competence in equipment examination or willingness to train to BS 16228 standards Ability to work independently, travel to client sites, and manage your own workload A safety‑driven mindset with excellent attention to detail Clear communication skills and confidence in dealing with clients---Why Join Safer Rig Services Work with a specialist company dedicated to raising safety standards in the drilling sector Opportunities for further training, certification, and progression Varied work across the UK with a wide range of rigs and equipment Competitive pay, flexible working, and a supportive, knowledgeable team---ApplyIf you’re a capable rig mechanic with a passion for safe, compliant equipment — or an experienced examiner looking for a company that values accuracy and professionalism — we’d love to hear from you.Send your CV and a brief introduction to [email protected]
