Full job description

We are currently recruiting an experienced, committed and confident Deputy Manager to join our residential care home in Hull.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced senior care professional who is ready to take the next step in their career and work closely alongside the Home Manager to maintain high standards of care, support the staff team and contribute to the effective day-to-day running of the home.

Position Details

Job Title: Deputy Manager
Location: Hull
Employment Type: Permanent
Hours: 35+ hours per week
Working Pattern: Full-time; shifts may fall on any day of the week according to the needs of the service
Salary: To be discussed, depending on experience

The successful candidate will also be required to participate in the home's on-call rota alongside the Home Manager.

Key Responsibilities

As Deputy Manager, you will work closely with the Home Manager and take an active role in the leadership and management of the home.

Your responsibilities will include:

Supporting the Home Manager with the day-to-day operation and management of the home.
Taking responsibility for the running of the home, including the welfare of residents and staff, in the absence of the Home Manager.
Providing strong, supportive and professional leadership to the staff team.
Ensuring high standards of safe, effective and person-centred care are consistently maintained.
Ensuring residents' care plans, risk assessments and individual needs are understood and followed by staff.
Promoting an environment that supports residents' dignity, independence, wellbeing and quality of life.
Supporting a positive working environment for staff and promoting good teamwork and professional standards.
Supervising, mentoring and supporting staff, including identifying training and development needs.
Supporting staff performance management, supervisions and appraisals.
Assisting with rota planning to ensure appropriate staffing levels and safe deployment of staff.
Assisting with the preparation and checking of information required for monthly payroll.
Taking responsibility for care planning, care documentation and/or administrative duties as delegated by the Home Manager.
Monitoring the quality and accuracy of care records and ensuring documentation is kept up to date.
Supporting safe medication management within the home, including the safe storage, administration and recording of medicines.
Ensuring staff follow medication policies, procedures and good practice.
Supporting safeguarding procedures and responding appropriately to concerns relating to residents' safety or wellbeing.
Supporting compliance with health and safety, infection prevention and control, fire safety and other regulatory requirements.
Participating in audits, quality monitoring and service improvement.
Supporting preparation for CQC and Local Authority inspections and responding to any identified areas for improvement.
Liaising professionally with residents, relatives, health and social care professionals, commissioners and other external agencies.
Supporting the Home Manager in maintaining and developing occupancy within the home.
Participating in the management on-call rota and responding appropriately to urgent situations when required.

Skills and Experience Required

The successful applicant should have:

NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent as a minimum.
NVQ Level 4, Level 5 or another relevant management or leadership qualification is highly desirable.
Previous experience in a Senior Care, Team Leader, Deputy Manager or similar senior position within adult social care.
Previous management or supervisory experience.
Strong leadership skills and the confidence to provide clear direction and guidance to staff.
Good knowledge of person-centred care and residential care standards.
Good understanding of safeguarding, medication management, health and safety and infection control.
Knowledge of CQC regulations and expectations within residential care.
Experience with care planning, risk assessments and maintaining accurate care documentation.
Strong organisational and time-management skills.
Ability to prioritise effectively and remain calm when dealing with challenging or unexpected situations.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Confidence communicating with residents, relatives, staff and external professionals.
Ability to work independently, make appropriate decisions and take responsibility when the Home Manager is unavailable.
A compassionate, professional and respectful approach to residents.
Reliability, flexibility and a strong commitment to maintaining high standards of care.

We are looking for someone who can be a visible and supportive presence within the home — someone who is comfortable leading from the front, supporting staff when they need guidance and challenging poor practice where necessary.

The successful candidate should be able to balance the administrative and compliance responsibilities of the role with remaining actively involved in the day-to-day life of the home.

You should be passionate about providing high-quality care and creating an environment where residents feel safe, respected and genuinely at home.

Complete a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check.
Provide satisfactory employment references.
Provide proof of qualifications where applicable.
Provide proof of the right to work in the United Kingdom.
Complete all required mandatory training.
Comply with the home's policies and procedures and all relevant regulatory requirements.
