Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Learner Mentor (SEND) to support children with special educational needs and disabilities within our organisation. The successful candidate will play a vital role in fostering a positive learning environment, providing personalised support, and encouraging the development of essential skills. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in young learners' lives through specialised mentoring and educational assistance.

Responsibilities

Deliver tailored support programmes to children with SEND, focusing on individual learning needs and behavioural goals
Assist with speech therapy activities and support communication development using appropriate techniques
Support early childhood education initiatives, including toddler care and preschool activities
Implement behaviour management strategies to promote positive behaviour and social interaction
Provide tutoring in core subjects such as maths and literacy, ensuring engagement and understanding
Support physical education activities to promote motor skills development
Collaborate with teaching staff, therapists, and parents to monitor progress and adapt support plans accordingly
Assist with proofreading educational materials and resources to ensure clarity and accuracy
Foster a nurturing environment that encourages confidence, independence, and social skills development

Experience

Experience working with children in educational or childcare settings, particularly within special education or early childhood environments
Knowledge of speech therapy techniques, applied behaviour analysis (ABA), and behaviour management strategies
Prior experience in tutoring or mentoring children with SEND is highly desirable
Strong communication skills to effectively liaise with children, parents, and multidisciplinary teams
Background in teaching physical education or supporting preschool activities is advantageous
Proven ability to manage behaviour positively, demonstrate patience, and adapt approaches to individual needs
Experience with proofreading educational content or resources is beneficial but not essential
