Peace of Mind, a service of Cumbernauld YMCA, is looking for a caring, enthusiastic, and motivated Child Care Assistant (Practitioner Level) to join our team. If you are passionate about supporting children’s development through play, creating positive experiences, and helping young people thrive in a safe and nurturing environment, we would love to hear from you.

About the Role

As a Child Care Assistant, you will help provide a welcoming, inclusive, and stimulating environment where children can learn, play, and develop confidence. Working alongside the Team Leader and wider childcare team, you will support a range of planned and child-led activities while ensuring the highest standards of care and safeguarding.

Key Responsibilities

Supporting Play and Learning

Create a warm, safe, and nurturing environment for children.
Support engaging play and learning opportunities, both indoors and outdoors.
Encourage children to participate in planning activities and sharing ideas.
Promote positive behaviour, good citizenship, and inclusion.
Act as a positive role model for children and young people.
Encourage responsibility by supporting children to tidy up and care for their environment.

Safeguarding and Health & Safety

· Ensure all play areas and equipment are safe and free from hazards.

· Follow health and safety procedures at all times.

· Report any concerns regarding child welfare, safety, or poor practice promptly.

· Support safe transport and walking procedures when accompanying children.

Administration and Teamwork

· Maintain accurate records, registers, and documentation.

· Follow all relevant policies, procedures, and professional standards.

· Respect confidentiality and data protection requirements.

· Compile child plans & review.

· Contribute to child progress observations and parent feedback.

· Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.

· Support the wider childcare service and undertake additional duties when needed.

Essential Skills and Qualities

We are looking for someone who:

Has good reading, writing, and IT skills.
Is self-motivated and reliable.
Enjoys being active and engaging with children both indoors and outdoors.
Has a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of children.

Qualifications/Wage

Applicant will hold an SVQ 3 Children and Young People (SCQF Level 7) qualification.

Applicants without this qualification may still be considered depending on current staffing requirements and applicants experience.

Wage: £ 12.71-£13.47

Hours: 16 per week.
