Are you a qualified and enthusiastic EFL teacher looking for a rewarding summer role? The British Learning Academy (BLA) is currently recruiting teachers to deliver dynamic and engaging English lessons to international students aged 11–17 for our residential summer programmes at Bristol Clifton College and Portsmouth University.
We offer English language courses in a well-structured yet flexible environment, prioritising communication and real-life language skills. Many of our students already receive grammar-heavy tuition at home; our role is to unlock their speaking confidence, encourage fluency, and support them in all aspects of language development.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver 15 hours of English teaching per week: Monday–Friday, 09:00–12:45, four 45-minute lessons with breaks, (there may be some weekend requirements)
- Attend a daily teacher meeting from 08:45–09:00
- Undertake 6 hours of directed time weekly
- Maintain high standards of safeguarding, teaching professionalism, and classroom management
Duties
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that meet curriculum standards and cater to diverse learning styles.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to support student progress and address any concerns.
- Assess student performance through regular evaluations and provide constructive feedback to promote improvement.
- Create an inclusive classroom environment that accommodates the needs of all learners, including those with special educational requirements.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with educational best practices and teaching methodologies.
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree (Level 6 or equivalent)
- A recognised TEFL qualification (e.g. CELTA, Trinity TESOL) with:
Minimum 120 hours input
Minimum 6 hours of assessed teaching practice
- Enhanced DBS check (or registration on the Update Service)
- Proof of right to work in the UK
Note: Online-only TEFL courses are not accepted unless accompanied by relevant QTS or assessed teaching practice.
Contractual Expectations:
- Teachers must be on-site by 08:30, ensuring they are fully prepared for their lessons.
- They should check in with staff and ensure all materials and workspaces are ready.
- Usually Activity Leaders return rooms to their teaching state but no guarantees.
- Also, while I or one of our directors generally go around each morning, open windows and turn on screens, there are no guarantees the screen is working, etc...
Teaching Schedule (15 Hours Per Week) :
- 09:00 – 12:45 (four 45-minute sessions with 15-minute breaks)
Directed Time (6 Hours Per Week) :
- Daily Morning Teacher Meeting (08:45 – 09:00) – Essential daily check-in, registers received and staff update.
- Occasional;
- Trip Excursion Quiz & Information (12:45 – 13:00) – Running presentations and quizzes on excursions for students
- Lesson Plan Write-ups Teachers may be asked to write up an observed lesson plan to contribute to the resource bank.
- Resource Development
- Essential Planning Time (3hours per week) designated lesson planning. Teachers are expected to be professional, prepared, and teach to a high standard. You are not likely to plan on-site; you may if you wish, but it is not a requirement unless observations raise concerns.
Salary & Benefits
- Newly qualified teachers: £465 per week
- 12+ months experience: £475 per week
- 5+ years experience: £500 per week with potential for additional top-ups
- Additional travel contribution of £50 per week for non-residential teachers
- Residential teachers receive full board accommodation (single en-suite room) and participate in excursions/evening activities, in the shape of one activity and one excursion per week.
