Independent Living Assistant (24‑Hour Shift Role) – Llandudno

Permanent Position – Full-Time – Llandudno

I’m an independent woman living in my own home in Llandudno, supported by a small team of Personal Assistants. I’m looking for a reliable, emotionally mature, and easy‑going person to join my team. This is a one‑to‑one role providing practical assistance throughout daily life and helping me maintain my independence as a full‑time wheelchair user.

The position carries genuine responsibility, so I’m looking for someone who values consistency, thoughtful care, and clear communication. If you enjoy meaningful work, learn quickly, and bring a calm, friendly presence, you may be an excellent fit. Formal care experience isn’t essential, though completing mandatory care training is a definite advantage.

Shift Pattern, Hours & Flexibility

The role begins with a minimum of 3 separate 24‑hour live‑in shifts every 28 days (including a sleeping night). This averages to 18 hours per week.

These shifts are not consecutive — this is not a 3‑day or 7‑day live‑in block. They are spaced throughout the month, with rest days between them.

As part of the wider team structure, full-time PAs work 7 shifts per 28‑day rota (averaging 42 hours per week).

As a cover PA, you may have opportunities to take on additional shifts over time for:

Training
Annual leave cover
Sickness cover
Team development or future vacancies

This structure suits someone who is happy to begin with a smaller number of shifts and gradually increase their hours as part of the team.

About the Support I Need

Due to a physical impairment and a muscle‑wasting condition, I require assistance with most aspects of daily living. This includes:

Personal care
Domestic tasks
Accompanying me on social outings
Driving when needed

Essentially, the things you do for yourself day‑to‑day are the things I need support with, or need done alongside me. These routines are part of my everyday life and are essential for maintaining my independence.

Important Information About the Role

I use a BiPAP ventilator throughout the day and night, so part of the role involves supporting me around this equipment. Full training is provided, and no clinical background is required — just a calm, confident approach and willingness to learn.

My daily routine is detailed and takes time and practice to learn. It isn’t “standard” domiciliary care; it’s a personalised, structured routine that requires patience, consistency, and good attention to detail. Training is thorough and paced sensibly to help you build confidence.

I live alone, so new PAs need to absorb information well during shadowing and feel comfortable working one‑to‑one. You must also be happy around dogs, as my boxer is an important part of my home.

Qualities & Skills I’m Looking For

To succeed in this role, you’ll need:

A strong sense of responsibility and commitment
Willingness to learn physical assistance techniques and understand my condition
The ability to follow instructions carefully while also using your own initiative
Quick learning skills and patience to master routines over time
A caring, confident approach around animals — especially my dog
A calm, adaptable, and open‑minded attitude
Local availability (training cannot be done on consecutive days)
Preferably a non‑smoking lifestyle
Willingness to complete an Enhanced DBS check
Clear spoken and written English for safety and communication
Eligibility to work in the UK without sponsorship
A friendly, sociable nature, balanced with the ability to enjoy quiet time independently
Emotional maturity, empathy, and sincerity
A safe, confident driver who genuinely enjoys driving
Flexible availability
Alignment with the social model of disability, which shapes how I live and work with others
