Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Senior Accounts Assistant or Assistant Accountant to join our finance team within a financial services environment. This role is suited to individuals with a strong foundation in accounting who are looking to develop their technical expertise and gain broad exposure to core financial operations.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting day-to-day accounting activities, month-end processes, financial reporting, and regulatory best practice, while working closely with internal teams and reporting to the Head of Finance to ensure accuracy, control, and efficiency across financial processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Accounting Operations & Transaction Management
- o Maintain accurate accounting records, including posting journals, accruals, and prepaymentso Process and review financial transactions to ensure completeness and accuracyo Support accounts payable and receivable activities as required
- Month End & Financial Close Support
- o Assist with month-end and year-end close processes in line with reporting deadlineso Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate varianceso Support preparation of management accounts and internal financial reports
- Reporting & Financial Support
- o Assist in the preparation of financial reports for internal stakeholderso Support statutory accounts preparation and respond to audit querieso Work with senior finance team members to ensure reporting accuracy and consistency
- Controls, Compliance & Risk
- o Support compliance with internal financial controls and regulatory requirements relevant to financial serviceso Assist in identifying process gaps and control improvementso Ensure accounting practices align with company policies and industry standards
- Systems & Process Improvement
- o Work with finance systems and tools to maintain data integrityo Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, efficiency, and documentationo Support automation or system enhancements within the finance function
Requirements
Education & Qualifications
- Newly qualified or part qualified ACCA, ACA or CIMA, or equivalent
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is preferred
Experience & Mindset
- Previous experience within financial services is essential
- Solid understanding of accounting principles and double-entry bookkeeping
- Hands-on experience supporting accounting or finance operations
- High level of attention to detail and accountability
- Willingness to learn, develop, and take ownership of deliverables
Technical & Analytical Skills
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience using accounting or finance systems
- Ability to analyse financial data and identify discrepancies

Working Hours
- Standard working hours are Monday to Friday
