Full job description

Heathstead is looking for experienced, reliable and professional Gas Safe Registered Engineers to join our growing subcontractor network.

We provide gas, electrical and maintenance services across London, Surrey, Hertfordshire and surrounding areas, with additional opportunities available further afield for engineers willing to travel.

We are looking for all types of gas engineers, including domestic, commercial and multi-skilled engineers, to support our expanding workload.

About the Work

The work is mainly reactive breakdowns, fault finding, servicing, repairs and remedial works. There may also be opportunities for planned maintenance, block servicing, landlord gas safety certificates and installation work depending on your qualifications and experience.

Typical work may include:

Boiler breakdowns and fault finding
Boiler servicing and maintenance
Landlord Gas Safety Certificates
Reactive gas repairs
Remedial works following breakdown diagnosis
Block servicing and planned maintenance
Domestic gas works
Commercial gas works, where qualified
Emergency or out-of-hours works, where available
Installation works, where suitable

If a fault cannot be fixed on the first visit, you will be expected to provide a clear job report confirming what was diagnosed, what work was carried out, whether any temporary repair was completed to restore supply, and what remedial work is required.

Engineers who are happy to complete follow-on remedial works will be preferred.

Hertfordshire
Berkshire
Essex
Kent
Buckinghamshire
Surrounding areas

Requirements

Applicants must have:

Valid Gas Safe registration
Relevant domestic and/or commercial gas qualifications
Previous experience as a gas engineer
Own van and tools
Full UK driving licence
Public liability insurance preferred
Strong fault-finding and diagnostic ability
Good communication skills
Ability to work independently and professionally
Good understanding of health and safety
Ability to provide clear job notes, photos and reports

Please note: Heathstead does not supply a van. You must have your own vehicle, tools and equipment.

Self-Employed / Subcontractor Role

This role is offered on a self-employed subcontractor basis.

You will be responsible for your own tax, National Insurance, insurance, vehicle, tools and business expenses.

This is ideal for engineers who already work for themselves and are looking for additional subcontracting work, consistent opportunities and long-term working relationships.

Pay

£250 – £800 per day, depending on:

Type of work completed
Experience and qualifications
Domestic or commercial works
Travel distance
Emergency or out-of-hours work
Volume of jobs completed
Remedial and follow-on works completed

Enhanced rates may be available for travel, emergency call-outs and out-of-hours works.
