Job Summary

We are looking for a caring, reliable and enthusiastic Cook / Care Assistant to join our friendly team at Heaton House Care Home.

This is a varied role combining kitchen and cooking responsibilities with care duties. The successful candidate will help prepare nutritious and enjoyable meals for our residents while also supporting them with their day-to-day care needs.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working with older people, takes pride in preparing good-quality food and is happy to work as part of a supportive care team.

Key Responsibilities

Cooking & Kitchen Duties

Prepare and serve fresh, nutritious and well-balanced meals for residents.
Cater for individual dietary requirements, allergies, preferences and modified diets as required.
Follow planned menus while maintaining high standards of food quality and presentation.
Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the kitchen and dining areas.
Follow food hygiene, health and safety, infection prevention and care home procedures.
Monitor food and kitchen supplies and assist with stock control and storage.
Ensure food is stored, prepared and served safely.
Work with the care team to ensure residents' individual nutritional and hydration needs are supported.

Care Duties

Provide compassionate and person-centred support to residents.
Assist residents with daily living activities and personal care when required.
Support residents with mobility while promoting independence wherever possible.
Provide companionship and emotional support, treating every resident with dignity and respect.
Follow individual care plans and report any changes or concerns regarding a resident's wellbeing.
Maintain accurate records and complete required documentation.
Communicate effectively with residents, relatives and other members of the care team.
Support residents to participate in activities, appointments and outings where required.

Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will:

Have previous cooking or kitchen experience, preferably within a care home or similar environment.
Have previous experience supporting older people or working within a care setting; however, relevant training can be provided.
Understand the importance of nutrition, hydration and individual dietary requirements.
Have a genuine caring and compassionate approach.
Be patient, respectful, reliable and trustworthy.
Have good communication and teamwork skills.
Be able to communicate clearly in English.
Have basic IT skills for completing records and documentation.
Be able to follow care plans, policies and health and safety procedures.
Be flexible and willing to support both kitchen and care duties as required.
A valid UK driving licence would be advantageous but is not essential.
