Full job description

Blackpool Zoo welcomes thousands of visitors every season and the appearance of our grounds plays a big part in creating a great day out. We’re looking for a reliable, hardworking Seasonal Grounds Assistant to join our team and help keep the zoo looking its best during our busiest periods.

This is a practical, outdoor role focused on the day-to-day upkeep of the zoo’s grounds and public spaces. You’ll help ensure the site remains clean, safe and well-presented for visitors, while supporting the wider maintenance team as needed.

What You’ll Be Doing

Carrying out general grounds maintenance including grass cutting, strimming, hedge trimming and weeding
Keeping visitor areas clean and tidy through regular litter picking and emptying bins
Assisting with basic planting and seasonal landscaping work
Helping maintain paths, seating areas and public spaces to a safe and presentable standard
Supporting with general upkeep tasks across the zoo as required
Working outdoors in all weather conditions, often while the zoo is open to visitors
Representing Blackpool Zoo positively by being friendly, approachable and professional

What We’re Looking For

A flexible and reliable approach to work – this is essential
Willingness to work weekends, bank holidays and peak visitor periods
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
A practical “get stuck in” attitude and willingness to work outdoors in all weather
Good attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards
Previous grounds maintenance or similar experience is helpful but not essential

About the Hours

This is a zero-hours seasonal role, meaning hours vary depending on visitor numbers, weather and events. Some weeks will be busier than others, making this ideal if you’re looking for flexible work that changes with the season.
