Full job description

Job Overview

We are looking for a practical and reliable Yard Assistant to join our yard team in Macclesfield. This is a hands-on role involving serving the public, organising materials, preparing customer orders, and loading wagons and vehicles. The role suits someone who enjoys physical work, customer interaction, and working as part of a small, hardworking team.

Key Responsibilities

Serving members of the public and trade customers in a friendly and professional manner
Organising, sorting, and maintaining materials within the yard
Picking, preparing, and checking customer orders
Loading wagons and customer vehicles safely and efficiently
Keeping the yard tidy, organised, and safe at all times
Assisting with general yard duties as required
Adhering to all health and safety procedures
Assisting on the counter when required.

Skills & Experience

Previous experience in a reclamation yard, builders’ merchant, or similar environment is helpful but not essential
Forklift licence is preferred but not essential (training may be available)
Good customer service and communication skills
Physically fit and comfortable with manual handling
Reliable, punctual, and willing to learn
Ability to work well as part of a team

Pay & Benefits

Hourly rate of pay dependent on experience
Stable, full-time hours
Saturday work on a rota basis
On-the-job training
Friendly working environment
