As our business continues to grow, we're looking to recruit a Management Accountant / Finance Manager to work closely alongside our Finance Director. This is a brand-new position that will play a key role in supporting the finance function across multiple companies within the Group.
Our finance team is intentionally small, currently consisting of our Finance Director and two Accounts Administrators, so this role offers genuine responsibility, variety and the opportunity to make a significant impact from day one.
The Role
We're looking for a Management Accountant / Finance Manager to support our Finance Director in overseeing the day-to-day financial management of our group of companies.
Reporting directly to the Finance Director, you'll be responsible for supporting the day-to-day financial management of several group companies, ensuring accurate reporting, maintaining strong financial controls and assisting with statutory compliance.
This is a hands-on role that would suit someone who enjoys working within an SME where every day is different and there's plenty of opportunity to get involved.
Key Responsibilities
Management Accounts & Reporting
- Prepare monthly financials, including monthly profit & loss reports
- Prepare journals and manage intercompany transactions
- Maintain the fixed asset register
- Assist with year-end accounts preparation
- Produce other financial reports and analysis as required
Banking & Cash Management
- Process and reconcile bank transactions
- Complete regular bank reconciliations
- Prepare and process supplier, subcontractor and payroll payment runs
- Maintain accurate cash records across multiple bank accounts
Tax & Compliance
- Prepare VAT returns
- Process HMRC payments including PAYE, CIS and VAT
- Manage Reverse VAT and CIS accounting, resolving any related queries
- Assist with Corporation Tax information for external accountants
- Prepare information for annual audits and statutory accounts
- Maintain Companies House records and annual confirmation statements
Sales & Purchase Ledger Support
- Raise contract sales invoices where required
- Monitor applications, outstanding debtors and customer receipts
- Assist with credit control
- Support the purchase ledger function
- Process intercompany recharges and reconciliations
Payroll Support
- Assist with monthly payroll processing
- Process pension submissions
- Support new starters, leavers and payroll administration
Finance Administration
- Maintain Sage records and nominal ledgers
- Maintain accurate financial records across multiple group companies
- Assist with continuous improvement of finance processes
- Provide general support to the Finance Director and wider finance team
About You
We're looking for someone who is:
- AAT qualified, studying ACCA/CIMA, or qualified by experience
- Experienced in the consturction industry, working with reverse VAT & CIS
- Confident using Sage 50 Accounts
- Strong Excel skills
- Organised with excellent attention to detail
- Able to manage multiple priorities across several companies
- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of tasks
- Previous experience within construction would be advantageous but isn't essential.

Recruitment Process
This role is being managed directly by our Finance Director, who will personally review all applications and conduct the interview process.
The advert will remain live until Friday 31st July. Please note that our Finance Director is on annual leave between 13th and 25th July, so applications will be reviewed on her return during the weeks commencing 27th July and 3rd August.
We anticipate holding interviews during the week commencing 10th August, with a start date agreed thereafter to accommodate the successful candidate's notice period.
This is a brand-new role and a key appointment for our business. Our Finance Director currently oversees all aspects of the finance function across multiple group companies, covering responsibilities that span Finance Director, Finance Manager, Management Accountant and Payroll. We're therefore looking to take the time to find the right person who will become a long-term member of our team.
Pay: £42,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
