Full job description

Job Title: Technical Manager
Department: Technical
Location: Office-based, with site visits as required

Job Purpose

The Technical Manager will provide technical support and guidance across the business, working closely with site teams, manufacturers and internal departments to ensure technical queries and installation issues are resolved effectively.

The role will be responsible for maintaining up-to-date technical knowledge, supporting the correct application of products and systems, and ensuring work is carried out in accordance with manufacturer requirements, current legislation, industry standards and relevant certification requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Provide technical support and guidance to site teams and colleagues across the business.
Manage technical queries from initial identification through to resolution, liaising with manufacturers and other relevant parties where required.
Provide clear technical advice on products, systems, installation methods and specifications.
Carry out site visits where required to investigate technical issues and provide practical support and guidance.
Work closely with manufacturers to obtain technical information, product guidance and system details.
Support internal departments including Estimating, Quantity Surveying, Contracts Management and Quality with technical queries and requirements.
Maintain accurate technical records and documentation, ensuring information remains current and accessible.
Review technical information and ensure the business is working to the latest manufacturer guidance, legislation and industry requirements.
Assist with identifying suitable alternative products or systems where required.
Support the completion of technical and certification requirements associated with projects.
Maintain awareness of new products, systems, installation methods and changes to relevant legislation and industry guidance.
Attend relevant training and CPD sessions to maintain and develop technical knowledge.
Promote a consistent and professional approach to technical standards across the business.

Person Specification

Skills & Experience

Proven experience in a technical support, technical management, specification or similar role within construction or a related industry.
Strong knowledge of construction products, installation methods and technical specifications.
Experience of working with manufacturers and interpreting technical information.
Understanding of relevant industry standards, legislation and certification requirements.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to different audiences.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple technical matters effectively.
Good attention to detail, particularly when dealing with technical information and documentation.
Confident working with site teams, manufacturers and internal departments.
Willingness to travel to sites as required.
