Location: Usk, Monmouthshire NP15
Salary: £30,520 – £32,000 (including 6 sleep-ins per month)
Contract: Full-Time (40 hours per week)

At Step-A-Side, we don’t just run children’s homes; we create families. Nestled in the tranquil, rural landscapes of Monmouthshire, located in Usk. Our home provides a peaceful sanctuary for young people who have experienced trauma and complex challenges. Here, the environment is as much a part of the healing process as our team is.

We are looking for dedicated, resilient, and big-hearted individuals to join our team. This isn't just a job; it’s an opportunity to help a child rediscover their individuality, enjoy their childhood, and to support them to build the confidence they need to step into adulthood. We support various young people between the ages of 8-18 years with complex needs, traumas, emotional and behavioural needs.

Our home is already powered by a fantastic, well-established team, and we're looking to evolve further by welcoming someone special into the fold - So we're looking for someone who bring their own unique quirks, ideas and experience to the team.

The Role: More Than Just Support

As a Support Worker, your day-to-day is about creating a "family home" atmosphere. You will:

Build Trust: Develop genuine, therapeutic relationships that help our young people feel safe, valued and build their self-esteem, whilst safeguarding our young people at all times.
Create Memories: Join in on exciting leisure activities—from outdoor adventures in the local area to quiet creative afternoons at home.
Provide Stability: Maintain the gentle structure and boundaries that help our young people thrive developmentally, including everyday household tasks and essential record-keeping.
Empower Futures: Use a therapeutic approach to help young people understand their feelings and make positive choices to promote their independence into adulthood.

What We Offer You

We believe that to take the best care of our young people, we must take the best care of you.

Competitive Pay: £30,520 – £32,000 per year.
Career Growth: We fully fund and support you through your Level 3 qualification.
Generous Leave: 28 to 34 days annual leave (increasing with service).
Well-being First: Access to mental health support services and 24/7 on-call support.
The Extras: £500 refer-a-friend bonus, £70 per sleep-in, paid induction, enhanced overtime rates on weekends, paid DBS and training costs and use of a company vehicle while on duty.

Your Schedule (The 3-Week Rolling Rota)

We value your work-life balance. Our rota is set for the year, so you can plan your life with certainty.

The Shift: A "Late-Sleep-Early" pattern (Starts 1pm, finishes 1pm the following day).
Structure: 10-hour late shift, 8-hour sleep-in (11pm–7am), and a 6-hour early shift.

What You’ll Need

The Basics: You must be 21+ (Legal requirement) and hold a full manual UK driving licence. You will need strong communication skills and have experience in using IT.
Location: You should live within one hour of Usk (NP15) to ensure you can reach us reliably.
Resilience: You must be physically and mentally fit to support and role model for our young people, including using physical interventions (Price) when necessary to keep everyone safe.
Commitment: If you don't already have a Level 3 qualification, you must be willing to complete it within your first 3 years.
Right to Work: You must have the right to work in the UK (we cannot offer sponsorship at this time).

Previous experience is most desirable. No experience? No problem. We provide comprehensive training and a supportive induction to ensure you feel confident from day one.
