Bar Manager – Full Time

Location: Gloucester GL2 0AJ

Salary: Starting salary of £29,000 per year, increasing to £31,000 per year after successful completion of a 3-month review

Probation Period: 6 monthsJob Type: Full-time

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Bar Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our busy community venue bar and support the wider running of the community centre. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong hospitality experience, excellent leadership skills, and a passion for delivering outstanding customer service in a welcoming community environment.

Due to the nature of the role, the successful candidate must live locally to the community centre and be able to attend the site at short notice in the event of emergencies, alarm activations, or operational issues.

Key Responsibilities

Coordinate the daily front of house and back of house bar operations
Take accountability for wet stock control and bar performance
Deliver excellent customer service and maximise customer satisfaction
Respond efficiently and professionally to customer complaints
Organise and supervise staff shifts
Carry out staff appraisals and manage staff performance reviews
Handle staff disciplinary matters in line with company procedures
Manage staff onboarding paperwork and ensure records are maintained correctly
Oversee the day-to-day running of the club and community centre operations
Arrange and coordinate general maintenance and obtain quotes for works where required
Authorise and manage purchasing of operational items within agreed budgets
Participate in interviewing and recruiting new staff members
Show prospective customers and hirers around the venue and facilities
Ensure appropriate staffing levels for entertainment events, including door management and admission control
Assist in the administration and management of the centre’s Facebook and social media presence
Prepare and serve basic bar food in line with food hygiene and safety standards
Ensure compliance with sanitation, licensing, food hygiene, and health & safety regulations
Maintain and enhance the bar’s image and reputation
Control operational costs and identify efficiency improvements
Work closely with the Sales & Marketing team to increase engagement, membership, and venue hire opportunities through promotions and advertising
Train new and existing staff in customer service and operational procedures
Implement policies and procedures that support the future growth of the operation
Undertake Duty Management responsibilities for the site when required
Respond to emergency call-outs and alarm activations when necessary

Requirements & Skills

Proven experience as a Bar Manager, Assistant Bar Manager, Hospitality Manager, or in a similar leadership role
Strong customer service and people management skills
Excellent beverage knowledge and confidence managing wet-led operations
Experience managing staff appraisals, recruitment, and disciplinary procedures
Ability to prepare and serve basic bar food
Ability to motivate, lead, and develop a team
Good understanding of budgets, stock control, and financial performance
A valid Personal Licence is essential
Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate preferred, or willingness to obtain one
Full UK driving licence preferred
Flexible approach to working hours, including evenings and weekends
Ability to reliably commute to Gloucester GL2 0AJ and attend the centre at short notice if required
Must live within a reasonable local distance of the community centre
Consent to an enhanced DBS check

Salary & Benefits

Starting salary of £29,000 per annum
Salary increase to £31,000 per annum after a successful 3-month review
