Job Purpose:

The role holder will be an experienced Senior Business Development professional with a strong background in retail to drive new business opportunities and strengthen existing client relationships. This is a senior, commercially focused role, suited to someone who can operate strategically while remaining hands-on in winning and developing business.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities within the retail sector.
Develop and maintain strategic relationships with senior stakeholders across retailers, brands and key partners.
Develop tailored commercial solutions aligned with client needs and John Pye’s service offering.
Negotiate contracts and commercial terms to deliver profitable growth.
Collaborate with Operations, Marketing, Technical and Auction teams to ensure successful implementation of client solutions.
Represent John Pye Auctions at industry events, conferences and key customer meetings, acting as a senior ambassador for the business.
Lead, coach and develop a small team of Business Development Managers.
Produce weekly pipeline, activity and performance reports, providing meaningful commercial updates and insights to Directors and Senior Management.
Analyse CRM and business development data to identify trends, risks and opportunities, supporting strategic decision-making.
Track team performance through analysis of CRM and internal business data, producing reports and recommendations for Senior Management.

Knowledge & Experience Required:

Proven track record in senior business development or commercial roles.
Strong experience within retail, retail supply chains, or related sectors.
Demonstrable success in winning and managing large or strategic accounts.
Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
Commercially astute, results-driven, and self-motivated.
Comfortable working autonomously while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Willingness to travel nationally as required.
