Full job description

CAD Technician

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented CAD Technician to join our growing Civil and Structural Engineering team. Working predominantly on residential housing developments, you will support the production of technical drawings and design documentation for a wide range of projects across the UK. This is an excellent opportunity to begin a rewarding career within the engineering industry, working alongside experienced engineers and technicians in a supportive and collaborative environment.

This position is open to both experienced CAD Technicians and enthusiastic entry-level applicants, including school leavers who are looking to start their career in engineering. No previous CAD experience is required for entry-level candidates, as full on-the-job training will be provided. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to develop their technical skills through structured mentoring and practical project experience.

Subject to successful performance, you will have the opportunity to undertake a recognised apprenticeship programme through day release, with progression to college and, where appropriate, university qualifications, providing a clear pathway to a long-term career in Civil and Structural Engineering.

Key Responsibilities

Produce accurate 2D drawings and 3D models using industry-standard CAD software, including AutoCAD and Revit.
Create technical drawings, schematics, system layouts, and detailed design documentation to support project delivery.
Collaborate with architects, engineers, designers, and project teams to develop, coordinate, and refine design solutions.
Prepare comprehensive construction documentation, including plans, elevations, sections, details, and technical specifications.
Ensure all drawings and models comply with project requirements, client specifications, relevant standards, and applicable regulations.
Review and revise drawings throughout the design process, incorporating feedback and maintaining document accuracy.
Support the resolution of design and coordination issues by applying effective CAD modelling techniques and practical solutions.
Maintain organised project files and ensure document control procedures are followed.

Skills & Experience

No previous CAD or engineering experience is required. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with the right attitude and a genuine interest in developing a career within Civil and Structural Engineering.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

A willingness to learn new skills and develop technical knowledge through training and mentoring.
Strong communication skills, with the confidence to communicate effectively with colleagues and ask questions when needed.
The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also taking responsibility for individual tasks.
A motivated, driven, and proactive attitude with a desire to build a long-term career.
Good attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
Good organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage priorities effectively.
Basic IT skills and confidence using Microsoft Office applications. Previous experience with CAD software is beneficial but not essential, as full training will be provided.
GCSEs (or equivalent), including Maths and English at Grade 4/C or above, are desirable. A Levels, T Levels, BTECs, or equivalent qualifications in Engineering, Design, Construction, or related subjects would be advantageous but are not essential.
