Safety, Health, Environment (SHE) Manager

Clydach Refinery, Swansea Full-Time | Permanent

About the Role

Vale Base Metals is seeking an experienced Safety, Health, Environment (SHE) Manager to join the Clydach Refinery Leadership Team.

Reporting to the UK Head of Operations,you will provide strategic leadership across safety, health, environment, process safety and security, ensuring the refinery operates safely, sustainably and in full compliance with legal and corporate requirements.

As a key member of the leadership team at one of the UK's major hazard industrial sites, you will play a critical role in managing risk, driving performance improvement, supporting operational excellence and shaping the long-term success of the business.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced SHE leader looking to make a significant impact within a global organisation committed to safety, sustainability and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the refinery's Safety, Health, Environment and Security function.
Own and maintain the SHE Management System, ensuring alignment with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards.
Develop and deliver the site's SHE strategy in line with business objectives and corporate requirements.
Lead compliance with COMAH regulations, including ownership of management systems and Safety Report requirements.
Provide expert advice and guidance to senior leaders and operational teams on all SHE matters.
Drive continuous improvement in safety culture, environmental performance, governance and regulatory compliance.
Lead emergency preparedness, resilience planning and crisis management activities.
Support operational improvements, organisational change and capital projects through effective risk management.
Build strong relationships with regulators, emergency services and external stakeholders.
Lead, coach and develop a high-performing SHE and Security team.

About You

We are looking for a confident and influential SHE professional with experience in a major hazard industry such as:

Chemicals
Metals and Mining
Oil & Gas
Energy
Manufacturing
Other COMAH-regulated environments

Essential Requirements

Degree qualified in Science, Engineering, Environmental Management or a related discipline.
NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent higher-level SHE qualification).
Environmental qualification or professional membership (IEMA/ISEP or equivalent).
Experience operating within a COMAH-regulated or other major hazard environment.
Strong understanding of process safety and major hazard risk management.
Experience engaging with regulatory authorities and external stakeholders.
Proven leadership experience, including coaching, mentoring and developing teams.
Experience influencing strategic decision-making within an operational environment.
