Managing Director
Solutions Bathrooms & Kitchens
Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire · Showroom-based, full time
A trading name of Direct Plumbing & Heating Supplies Ltd
About Solutions
Solutions has been designing, supplying and installing bespoke kitchens and bathrooms across Nottinghamshire and the East Midlands for over 30 years. We have built a genuine reputation for quality and service, a loyal customer base, a strong portfolio of five-star reviews, an established showroom on Mansfield Road, and a small network of fitters who deliver beautiful work for our customers.
We are proud of what we have built. Behind the scenes, we have worked hard as owners to put strong systems, well-defined processes, cutting-edge technology and effective marketing in place — giving the business a genuinely modern, professional platform. We are ambitious about where it can go next, and we are now looking for a Managing Director to lead that next chapter.
The Opportunity
This is a rare chance to step into a business that already has real structure behind it. As owners, we have invested heavily in building strong, well-defined processes, cutting-edge technology, and effective marketing — the foundations of a modern, well-run business are firmly in place.
What we are looking for now is a leader to take those foundations and truly drive the business forward: someone to own the strategy, lead and develop the team, and bring genuine commercial intent to everything we do. There is significant untapped potential here, including an exciting opportunity to grow the trade side of the business. If you are an ambitious, commercially-minded leader who can take something well-built and accelerate it, this role offers real scope to make a lasting impact — and to be rewarded for it.
The Role
As Managing Director, you will lead the performance, direction and day-to-day running of the Solutions business. You will own growth and profitability, lead and develop the team, strengthen our commercial relationships, and put in place the systems and processes that allow a quality business to scale. You will report to the owners and be trusted to run the business commercially, keeping them clearly informed along the way.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Leadership & Growth
- Own the growth of the business — set the pace and push it forward rather than letting it drift.
- Make commercial decisions confidently: pricing, margin, product ranges, supplier terms and investment.
- Build and nurture strong commercial relationships — suppliers, trade partners, fitters and key customers.
- Identify and act on opportunities to win more business and increase average order value.
Strategy & Direction
- Set a clear, realistic strategy for the business and articulate it so the whole team understands where they are heading.
- Translate that strategy into concrete plans, targets and priorities — not just intentions.
- Bring strong ideas to the table and be willing to test, refine and back them.
Financial & Commercial Discipline
- Take full ownership of the P&L — understand the numbers and use them to drive decisions.
- Ensure reporting is done properly and on time; treat figures as essential, not optional.
- Monitor performance against targets and act quickly when something is off track.
Operations, Systems & Process
- Make the most of the strong processes and technology already in place — keeping them sharp, consistent and working hard for the business.
- Keep a close eye on detail and follow things through to completion.
- Be confident with systems and software, and always look for smart ways technology can help the business grow.
Team Leadership & People
- Lead the team confidently and fairly, getting the best from everyone (no need to be an HR specialist — just a strong people manager).
- Run regular, purposeful team meetings and communicate with clarity and direction.
- Set clear expectations, support the team, and develop their capability over time.
The Team
You will be leading a close-knit team of seven , a genuine mix of experienced, knowledgeable people who know the business and the industry well, alongside newer talent with fresh energy and room to grow. They are a real asset, and there is a great deal to build on.
This role is as much about people as it is about commercial performance. We are looking for someone who will both support and lead the team — bringing clear direction, getting the best from those already here, and helping each of them develop. The right leader will earn their trust quickly and turn a good team into a high-performing one.
About You
We are looking for an ambitious, hands-on leader who knows our industry and is excited to build something. You will likely recognise yourself in the following:
- Industry knowledge: you understand the kitchen and bathroom industry, and can make credible commercial decisions with confidence.
- Commercially driven: you are energised by growth and enjoy pushing a business forward and seeing the results.
- Financially astute: you can read a P&L comfortably and naturally connect day-to-day activity to the numbers.
- Organised and structured: you value good process, detail and consistency, and bring order to how things are done.
- Tech-confident: you are comfortable with systems and software and see technology as a way to grow and improve.
- Marketing-aware (a real plus): an understanding of marketing and how it drives commercial growth would be highly beneficial, given the strong marketing platform already in place.
- A natural people leader: you can lead, organise and motivate a team.
- Dependable: you take ownership and see things through.
What success looks like
In your first 12–18 months, success would look like:
- Revenue and profit growth against an agreed plan.
- A clear strategy in place and visibly driving day-to-day priorities.
- Consistent, accurate, on-time reporting and a well-managed P&L.
- Defined processes that the team follows.
- A motivated, well-managed team operating with clear direction.
- Stronger commercial relationships and a healthier order pipeline.
Package & Remuneration
This is a genuine opportunity to earn well by delivering. The package combines a solid basic with a meaningful, performance-linked bonus so that strong commercial results are properly rewarded.
- Basic salary: £60,000 per annum.
- On-target earnings: up to £100,000 with all targets achieved (basic plus performance bonus).
- Car allowance: To be discussed
- Pension & benefits: as per the company scheme.
The bonus is designed to be both achievable and stretching: the right person will see a clear path to it, and the business only pays the higher tiers once the profit to fund them has been earned.
What We Offer
The chance to take real ownership of a respected, 30-year-old business with strong foundations and clear untapped potential — and the autonomy to drive it forward your way, with the backing of owners who want it to grow.
Pay: £60,000.00-£70,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Employee discount
- Free parking
- On-site parking
