Full job description

Community Connector – The Handy Trust

We are seeking a compassionate and proactive Community Connector to support children, young people, their families and wider communities through engagement, mentoring and local partnership work. This role with The Handy Trust will focus on tackling inactivity and health inequalities by building positive relationships, encouraging participation, and supporting people in the New Forest to move more.

Key Objectives – Place in Focus (New Forest)

Support the design, delivery and evaluation of Place In Focus work by:

Supporting increased participation in physical activities that improve health and mental wellbeing
Helping to build self-esteem and resilience in young people and families
Encouraging greater use of green spaces for community activities
Supporting community-based work with Gypsy, Roma and Traveller (GRT) communities
Focusing on inactivity in priority areas and strengthening links between physical activity and local cultural opportunities
Strengthening local partnerships and develop community-led responses to inequalities

Key Responsibilities for the role:

Support and engage young people in schools, community settings, and youth programmes
Plan, deliver and facilitate activities that meet the needs and interests of children, young people and their families that promote teamwork, communication, social development and physical activity
Provide mentoring and guidance to help individuals overcome challenges and achieve personal goals, specifically related to supporting communities to be more active
Build strong relationships with families, schools, community organisations, and stakeholders in the New Forest and further afield
Spend time in the community developing connections and understanding local needs
Encourage community participation and support local initiatives connected to health and wellbeing
Identify and work with community champions to strengthen local networks and support individuals and communities to develop and lead their own ideas
Capture insight, monitor progress, and contribute to evaluation
Maintain accurate records and attend partnership meetings
Advocate for the needs and rights of children, young people and families

Skills and Experience

Working with children and young people, particularly those harder to reach or at risk
Strong relationship-building and mentoring skills
Knowledge of asset-based community development
Excellent communication skills
Good understanding of safeguarding
Knowledge of the New Forest area (desirable)
Ability to motivate, influence and build trust
Organised and confident using digital tools
Creative and adaptable approach to engagement
Able to work independently and within a team
Relevant qualification in youth work, education, or similar (desirable)

Essential:

Licence holder and car owner

Happy to have an Enhanced DBS Check

CLOSING DATE: Closing date for applications is Monday 29th June.

Pay: £14.00-£14.25 per hour
