Full job description

This is a great opportunity for an aspiring chef to join a busy brigade in a prime venue in West Sussex. As an Apprentice Commis Chef at Mannings Heath Golf Club, you will have the opportunity to work alongside our experienced chefs while working towards your Commis Chef Level 2 Apprenticeship.

This role is designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge required to excel in the culinary industry and learn the art of creating delicious and beautifully presented dishes.

What you will learn

Fundamental cooking techniques and kitchen operations
Safe food handling and hygiene best practice
Menu planning and ingredient selection
Efficient kitchen organisation and time management
How to work in a fast paced, customer focused environment
Plating and presentation skills

Key Responsibilities

Assist in the preparation and cooking of various dishes under the supervision of senior chefs
Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen
Help with stock control and inventory management
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
Working collaboratively with the kitchen team during busy service periods
Collaborate with the kitchen team to deliver exceptional dining experiences for our guests

Working Week: 40 hour working week (after breaks), hours will vary some evening and weekend shifts being required Wednesday to Sunday, normally an 8-hour shift 8-16h30 | 12- 20h30pm |12h30-21h00

Salary: £ 16,640 per annum in line with the Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage. Please see below for further information.

Qualifications: GCSE maths and English grade 2 required

What you need to know

This role is based on site at Mannings Heath Golf Club, so it is important to have transport arrangements in place.
The role will start on successful recruitment, and the apprenticeship course will begin in October 2026.
This Level 2 qualification is a 15-month apprenticeship including the 3 months end point assessment.
To apply you must have lived in the UK for a minimum of 3 years before the start date of the --apprenticeship learning and have authorisation to work in the UK.
You cannot apply if you already have a qualification equal to or higher than the apprenticeship standard being studied.
You can apply if you have a higher qualification than the apprenticeship standard in an unrelated subject.
You should live in the area local to the employer and the college campus offering the apprenticeship.
This is a combination of work and learning so you will need to commit to the learning and stay at the employers until the apprenticeship is successfully completed.
Learning at Chichester College may be undertaken remotely or onsite with some classroom attendance.

Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £8.00 per hour (As of the 1st April 2026). This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16- to 18-year-old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum Wage appropriate to their ages applies.

Pay: £16,640.00 per year
