To ensure the safe, efficient, and effective daily operation of the Centre for Sport facilities, overseeing recreation assistants and customer activities on shift. The Duty Officer will uphold and implement Health & Safety standards, support team development, and play a key role in delivering a high-quality experience for all facility users.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and support centre assistants, ensuring smooth coordination of shift activities.
- Enforce Health & Safety regulations, normal operating procedures (NOPs), and emergency action plans (EAPs) to prevent incidents and ensure a safe environment.
- Respond promptly to accidents and administer First Aid or escalate appropriately, ensuring accurate and timely documentation of all incidents.
- Oversee daily facility cleanliness and hygiene standards; identify, report, and coordinate repairs or replacements of equipment and fixtures.
- Liaise with internal teams (Estates, contractors) for on-site maintenance and service support.
- Allocate tasks to centre assistants to ensure operational efficiency across facilities.
- Coordinate and supervise children’s programmes, including holiday camps, courses, and events or competitions.
- Provide cover for other Duty Officers during absences and assist in flexible shift coverage as needed.
- Monitor and ensure timely completion of cleaning and maintenance tasks.
- Oversee and manage two designated operational areas in agreement with the Operations Manager.
- Assist in training new and existing staff in accordance with approved training programmes, ensuring familiarity with SOPs and EAPs.
- Promote and comply with UWE policies on Health & Safety and Equal Opportunities.
- Maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and participate in relevant working groups.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as assigned by the line manager, in consultation with the post holder.
