Book-keeper Job Description

Reporting to Finance Manager

Contracted hours 14 hours a week (Mon – Wed) temporary contract for 3 months with potential to become permanent

Salary per annum £12,376 fte (pro rata @ £17 ph)

Place of work Bromley area as required by the needs of the business

Interviews: Friday, 21 August between 9:30 - 13:30 and Wednesday, 26 August between 9:30 - 13:30

Job Summary:

To work within the Finance Team providing high quality financial advice and information to CHA. Whilst ensuring the legislative requirements, statutory deadlines, and professional standards are adhered to.

To provide support to the Finance Manager carrying out the following main duties:

1 The provision of up to date and accurate financial information and advice.

2 Data entry that ensures effective, accurate and consistent use of relevant up to date accounting and finance processes to ensure robust and accurate financial governance. This includes, but is not limited to, processing and reconciling:

a) sales ledger: invoicing, cash allocation, client reconciliations, credit control and debtor management

b) purchase ledger: process payables invoices from Lightyear, payment runs and supplier reconciliation, bank allocation

c) payroll: Planday weekly updates, payroll run, payments, HMRC payments

d) pensions: manage auto enrolment and relevant admin

e) petty cash: management and reconciliation of balance sheets

f) Expenses and credit card management and reconciliation

g) Bank postings and reconciliation of all accounts

h) Month-end journals including depreciation, accruals and prepayments and reconciliations

i) Double entry book-keeping experience and input into cashflow forecasts

j) Ability to understand LBB Housing Benefit receipts/Carehome contributions

3 Ensuring that financial information is recorded correctly on the financial systems to meet legislative requirements, provide effective management information and adherence to the financial governance framework.

4 To assist the Finance Manager in preparation of accounts, budgets and statutory reports.

5 To carry out any other appropriate duties as requested.

6 To work in line with CHA’s Policies and Procedures and ensure compliance with equality and diversity.

7 To be committed to, and continually promote, the Christian ethos of CHA and to ensure best value of all services.

8 To comply and undertake training required to the Finance Officer role.

Requirements for the role - Essential

Confident user of Xero accounting platform (Two years plus) and spreadsheets for financial reporting, financial management, payroll processing and performance monitoring.

Two years plus technical book-keeping experience or qualification

Understanding of up-to-date internal control mechanisms, which ensure robust financial procedures

Skills and abilities - Essential

Adaptable and flexible in approach

Experience in using up to date hardware and software technology to improve efficiency and effectiveness

Ability to work on own initiative without close supervision

Communication skills - Essential

Excellent written and verbal skills

Ability to communicate with colleagues and be a team player

Tact and discretion when dealing with confidential information

Pay: £17.00 per hour
