Full job description

Vehicle Technician / MOT Tester

Department: Section A – Garage
Responsible to: Garage Manager
Start Date: Immediate Start

Key Responsibilities

Carry out general maintenance, repairs, servicing, and vehicle inspections to a high standard.
Perform MOT testing in accordance with the standards specified by the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA).
Achieve high productivity through continuous improvements in efficiency.
Maintain a positive attitude and contribute to achieving the objectives set out in the Company's Quality Policy.
Promote high morale and teamwork within the workshop.

Role Requirements

Service and repair all types of passenger vehicles in accordance with manufacturers' specifications. Inspect vehicle condition before commencing work and record findings on the repair order as necessary.
Diagnose faults and liaise with the Garage Manager and Head Mechanic regarding additional work required or any delays in completion. Ensure all completed tasks are checked off on the repair order.
Maintain a clean and safe working environment. Ensure company vehicles, equipment, and special tools are used correctly and returned to their designated storage locations. Follow all workshop Health & Safety regulations and instructions regarding removed vehicle parts.
Supervise and train Trainee Technicians to a high standard.
Undertake road tests using approved test routes.
Report any recommended additional work to the Garage Manager for customer approval.
Report defective tools or equipment to the Head Mechanic. Particular attention should be given to torque wrenches, feeler gauges, and tyre depth gauges. Where required, carry out and record inspections of workshop measuring equipment.
Qualified Technicians must conduct MOT tests in accordance with the MOT Testers Manual.
Attend all required training courses to maintain professional competence and support ongoing development within the company.
Maintain a thorough understanding of company guidelines, procedures, and policies, ensuring compliance by employees, suppliers, and customers to minimise risk to the business.
Promote all company services to customers whenever appropriate.
Encourage a positive team culture that supports business growth and success.
Maintain high standards of housekeeping across the site and ensure waste materials are managed and disposed of in accordance with relevant regulations.
Ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of employees and customers on site, following all health and safety procedures and systems.
Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by management.

Authority and ResponsibilitiesFinancial

Authorised to request parts from the Parts Department where required to complete an approved repair order.

Staff

Responsible for supervising and training apprentices when assigned.
Responsible for maintaining appropriate standards of discipline and workmanship.

Other

Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety legislation and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations.
Support and promote the company's vision and values.

Qualifications Required

Valid Class 4 MOT Tester qualification (VOSA Smart Card).
Fully qualified Vehicle Technician with a minimum Level 3 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent.

Experience Required

Minimum of 5 years' experience in motor vehicle mechanics.

Salary

To be confirmed (dependent on qualifications and experience).

Pay: £29,025.66-£45,055.38 per year
