Full job description

We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Cook to join our team and play a key role in delivering nutritious, high‑quality meals for individuals in our residential care services. Your work will directly enhance the wellbeing and daily experience of the people we support.

About the Role

You will be responsible for planning, preparing, and cooking well‑balanced meals that meet a wide range of dietary needs, preferences, and medical requirements. You’ll maintain a safe, hygienic kitchen environment and ensure meals are served on time and presented to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and prepare meals that are nutritious, appetising, and tailored to individual dietary needs (e.g., allergies, diabetic, soft diets).
Work with the Registered Manager to create menus that meet residents’ nutritional requirements.
Maintain high kitchen hygiene and comply with all food safety regulations.
Adapt meals for vegetarian, vegan, gluten‑free, low‑sodium, and other specialist diets.
Monitor stock levels, ensure ingredients are fresh, and place orders when needed.
Present meals attractively to enhance the dining experience.
Support special events such as birthdays and holiday celebrations.
Store cleaning chemicals and utensils safely at all times.
Work collaboratively with care staff to ensure residents’ nutritional needs are fully met.
Comply with Environmental Health and other regulatory requirements.

Person Specification

Proven experience as a Chef or Cook, ideally in a care or supported living environment.
Strong understanding of food safety regulations and best practices.
Experience preparing meals for diverse dietary needs and medical conditions.
Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene Certificate (required).
Allergy awareness and understanding of nutritional needs in care settings.
Strong organisational skills, including stock management.
