Beckett House Practice, Grantham Road, London, SW9 9DL

Do you like a varied workload and dealing with the public? Could you help our patients get the care they need from our team, and the wider NHS? If so, read on!

Main duties of the job

The receptionist/administrator will often be the first point of contact for a patient using the NHS. This frontline role is key to ensuring the patient journey is a smooth one. Taking enquiries from various sources including face to face, over the phone and via email, you will need to effectively signpost patients to the correct service within the practice or to another service. You will need to have excellent listening skills and the ability to understand and empathise, often dealing with patients who may be upset, angry or frustrated. The ability to remain calm and positive is essential.

Working within a multidisciplinary team of both clinical and non-clinical members, you will need to be able to work effectively and communicate well across all the various disciplines. Accurately summarising information received from the patient and effectively communicating this to other team members both verbally and on the patient record, is a key requirement.

In addition to the above, a wide variety of tasks need completing every day, so an ability to multitask and effectively prioritise is needed. This includes work relating to prescriptions, referrals and hospital correspondence, recalling patients for screening and immunisations, registering patients and supporting them to access our digital services.

Our patients speak a wide range of languages, and we often use interpreting services. Whilst excellent spoken and written English is essential, an ability to speak Portuguese, Spanish or another second language would be helpful.

The successful candidate will be a conscientious worker who wants to deliver the best possible care, who can remain calm and positive in a fast paced and challenging environment, can work closely with others as part of our team and is an excellent timekeeper. We are always striving to do our best, so we need people who are willing to learn and who welcome feedback and guidance. You will also need to be comfortable working a shift pattern that will change from week to week. Please see details below.

Previous experience within a GP practice is not necessary and any training required will be conducted in-house.

The role

We are offering 2 full-time, permanent posts with a salary of £14.80 per hour (London Living Wage), Monday to Friday.

Our shifts are either 'early' or 'late' and each includes either opening the practice at 7.45am or closing the practice (7pm usually, or 8pm on Tuesdays).

We’re based in Stockwell, London, SW9 9DL, so we need someone who can reliably commute to our location, or relocate before starting work. The role is only available in person. We require GCSEs, or equivalent qualifications.

Job Type: Full-time (see shift pattern).

Pay: £14.80 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
