Full job description

Salary: Grade B: £25,877.80 per annum. The band goes up to £26,257.79 per annum, however, this is dependent on annual performance reviews. Plus £650 Anti-Social Hours Allowance

Hours: Full Time, 37 hours per week, Covering Monday to Sunday. Shift working between 8am and 8pm, flexibility with aim to work hours over 4 days

Job Purpose:

To support the delivery of Oasis Community Housing’s Sunderland Emergency Accommodation Project. The service has six self-contained flats and operates 24-hour staffed supported housing for Adult Males who are experiencing homelessness. The project prides itself on being a Psychologically Informed Environment (PIE). We aim to provide accommodation and support that helps people find self-worth and the belief that they deserve a better future, supporting them in safe, positive transitions, providing holistic support to gain essential life skills, achieve health outcomes, to realise and achieve their aspirations, and reach their full potential, before moving them on safely and successfully.

The Project Worker role is a great opportunity for someone who want to champion our mission to end homelessness. We are looking for someone who has a heart for the people we serve, we are looking for the type of person who would not just walk past a homeless person in the street and not want to reach out and do something.

Duties & Responsibilities:

· To be the first point of contact from referring agencies

· Maintain accurate record keeping (full training will be given during induction)

· Manage enquiries relating to vacancies in the project

· Keep appropriate records of interventions with our Service Users on our Inform system

· Encourage client involvement in the development and operation of the service,

facilitate consultation and participation.

· Promote, implement and ensure compliance with OCH’s Equality and Diversity

· To clean any void rooms so that the room becomes available to let in a timely manner

· Actively ensure the security of the building including monitoring of CCTV systems.

· Ensure Health and Safety of Guests by using basic first aid skills and calling for

emergency assistance i.e. 999 and evacuation of site in the event of the fire alarm,

where necessary.

· Clean office space and communal areas on a scheduled rota.

· Ensuring that house rules are explained to Guests and enforced when need be

· Deal with complaints in accordance with OCH's agreed procedures.

· Share responsibility for good health and safety practices, including participating

in fire drills and risk assessments, reporting to line-management any matters of

concern and attend health and safety training

· To organise and encourage activities such as film nights/ food nights and any creative projects which would be of interest

· To ensure and encourage our Service Users to be considerate neighbours and prevent anti-social behaviour

· · To provide holistic (mental, physical, emotional, spiritual) support to people accessing our projects.

· To ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are adhered to in your practices, and that concerns are reported appropriately and expediently, both internally, and externally, as needed.

· To navigate challenging situations effectively and sensitively

· To signpost, and support individuals to access other agencies as needed.

· To work with people being supported to resolve conflict using de-escalation skills where appropriate.

· To attend relevant training sessions as required by the role / your line manager

General:

To work in a flexible manner, taking initiative and prioritising the needs of projects and the organisation
To attend regular supervision sessions with your line manager

· Any other reasonable duties as required by the Project Team Leader

Personal Specification

· Must have a passion for helping those who find themselves homeless and be non-judgmental in their approach

· To be patient, compassionate and have empathy for the people we support.

· To have an understanding of drug and alcohol issues and the effects this can have on an individual.

· To be friendly and approachable

· A good sense of humour is a must

· To work as part of a team and be supportive and kind towards colleagues

Work Experience:

Experience of working in this field or the care sector would be desirable but it is not essential. We believe that this is a vocation it’s not just a job and this would be a good opportunity for someone who would like to get into this line of work, or for someone who is looking for a career change

Skills, Knowledge & Aptitude:

· A mature and flexible approach; excellent personal emotional intelligence and self-awareness, with an ability to work calmly under pressure

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build effective working relationships with other organisations

· Excellent IT skills and ability to effectively use computer software packages i.e. Microsoft Office

· Able to work on own initiative

· Able to work as an integral member of a team

· Must have ability to maintain accurate records

· Must be able to respond flexibly to the needs of our guests

· Able to work shifts throughout a 24 hour period and work unsocial hours.
