Full job description

Job Summary

Motormedic Test Centre Ltd is looking for an experienced MOT Tester and Vehicle Mechanic to join our garage in Haverhill.

The role will involve carrying out Class 4 MOT tests, servicing, diagnostics, repairs and general mechanical work on customer vehicles. The successful candidate will help ensure vehicles are inspected, repaired and completed to a high professional standard, while maintaining excellent customer service and workshop standards.

Main responsibilities include:

Carrying out MOT tests in line with DVSA requirements
Vehicle servicing, inspections and repairs
Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults
Brakes, suspension, exhausts, tyres, batteries and general repair work
Completing job cards and inspection records accurately
Maintaining a clean, safe and organised workshop
Advising management of additional work required on vehicles
Following health and safety procedures at all times

Skills needed
The ideal candidate should have:

Valid MOT Tester qualification for Class 4 vehicles
Previous experience as a mechanic or vehicle technician
Good knowledge of vehicle servicing, diagnostics and repairs
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Good attention to detail and professional workmanship
Ability to complete paperwork and job records accurately
Good communication skills with customers and colleagues
Full UK driving licence preferred
Level 2 or Level 3 vehicle maintenance qualification preferred, but experience will also be considered.

Experience

Proven experience as a vehicle mechanic or MOT tester is preferred but not essential; training can be provided for the right candidate.
Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to diagnose faults efficiently.
Familiarity with hand tools and power tools used in automotive repair work.
Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and effectively during repair procedures.
Knowledge of current MOT testing procedures and vehicle safety standards is advantageous.
Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail to ensure quality workmanship.
