Full job description

Reporting to: SENCO

Hours of Work: Part-time, 2 days per week, 15 hours per week, Term-time only

(specific days and hours to be negotiated, potentially increasing during internal and external examination periods)

Salary: £16.57 per hour, £9,960 per annum, which is based on the FTE of £32,400 per annum

To manage the administrative and operational implementation of exam access arrangements (AA) for students with additional learning needs.

You will ensure that all arrangements comply with the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) and other awarding body regulations, enabling every eligible pupil to receive the appropriate adjustments for public and internal examinations.

Key Responsibilities

Coordination and Compliance

End-to-End Management: Coordinate the identification, assessment, and application process for students requiring access arrangements.
Regulatory Adherence: Ensure all school procedures remain compliant with current JCQ regulations and awarding body guidelines.
Application Submission: Manage online applications for public examinations through relevant systems (e.g., JCQ Access Arrangements Online).
Audit Readiness: Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and audit-ready electronic student files, including required evidence such as Form 8s, Form 9s, and proof of "normal way of working".

Liaison and Communication

Stakeholder Contact: Act as the primary point of contact for staff, parents, and external professionals regarding access arrangements.
Assessors: Liaise with specialist external assessors to schedule assessments and ensure they possess up-to-date qualifications.
Transition Support: Contact previous schools to roll forward arrangements from GCSE to A-Level and ensure continuity of support for transferring students.
Staff Guidance: Advise teaching staff on gathering appropriate evidence to document a student's "normal way of working" in the classroom.

Administrative and Operational Support

Internal Exams: Assist with the administration and implementation of access arrangements for internal school assessments.
Exam Support: Provide specialist support during exams, which may include acting as a specialist invigilator, scribe, reader, or supervisor for rest breaks.
Training: Deliver guidance and training to invigilators and department staff on how to correctly implement specific access arrangements.
Resources: Manage specialist equipment and software (e.g. iPod, reading pens, computer readers, laptops) needed for examinations.

Person Specification

Experience and Qualifications

Educational Setting: Experience working within a school or educational environment is essential. Previous experience as a SENCO, Assistant SENCO, or Specialist Assessor for Exam Access Arrangements would be desirable.

JCQ Knowledge: A strong understanding of JCQ regulations relating to access arrangements (or a willingness to undertake immediate training).

Relevant Background: Experience submitting applications for arrangements or working supportively with neurodivergent students.

Specialist Assessment: A Level 7 Specialist Assessor qualification is highly desirable.

Skills and Abilities

Administrative Excellence: Exceptional organisational skills with high attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation.

IT Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and the ability to learn new educational databases quickly.

Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to communicate sensitively and professionally with pupils, parents, and external agencies.

Time Management: Ability to manage a high caseload and prioritise tasks effectively to meet strict exam board deadlines.

Personal Qualities

Empathy: An understanding and empathetic approach toward students with additional learning needs and disabilities.

Integrity: A strong sense of discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive student data in line with GDPR.

Adaptability: A flexible "can do" attitude with the ability to work calmly under pressure and adjust to changing priorities.
