Home Manager – Residential and Dementia Care Home

Salary: From£50,000 per year
Job type: Full-time, permanent
Location: Hampton Manor, County Durham
Work location: In person

About Hampton Manor

Hampton Manor is a luxury purpose-built, 55-bed residential and dementia care home committed to providing safe, compassionate and person-centred care.

The home is rated Good by the Care Quality Commission and has been recognised as one of carehome.co.uk’s Top 20 Care Homes in North East England in both 2025 and 2026.

We are seeking an experienced, confident and compassionate Home Manager to provide strong leadership and take overall responsibility for the effective operation of the home.

The role

As Home Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining high standards of care, compliance, leadership and operational performance.

You will lead and support the home’s management and staff teams, ensuring that residents receive high-quality, person-centred care which promotes their dignity, independence, wellbeing and safety.

You will work closely with the company’s senior management team and Head of Finance and HR to ensure the home is operated safely, effectively and in accordance with company policies, regulatory requirements and agreed management arrangements.

Key responsibilities

Provide effective leadership and day-to-day management of the home.
Maintain consistently high standards of person-centred residential and dementia care.
Ensure compliance with CQC regulations, the Health and Social Care Act and all other relevant legislation and guidance.
Maintain the home’s CQC registration and support its continued regulatory development.
Lead, motivate and support the staff team, promoting a positive, accountable and professional working culture.
Ensure staffing levels and skill mix are appropriate to residents’ assessed needs.
Oversee the assessment, admission and ongoing review of residents.
Ensure care plans, risk assessments and associated records are accurate, person-centred and regularly reviewed.
Oversee the safe management and administration of medicines.
Monitor standards through effective audits, quality assurance processes and action plans.
Manage safeguarding matters appropriately and liaise with local authorities and other external agencies when required.
Build positive and professional relationships with residents, relatives, healthcare professionals and commissioners.
Manage complaints, concerns and incidents promptly, sensitively and in accordance with company procedures.
Support effective recruitment, induction, supervision, appraisal and development of staff.
Monitor staff performance, attendance, conduct and training compliance.
Work collaboratively with the Head of Finance and HR on formal employee relations matters and any proposed changes to roles, pay or contractual arrangements.
Support occupancy and maintain the home’s strong reputation within the local community.
Manage resources responsibly and operate the home within agreed budgets.
Provide reports and management information as required.
Participate in the home’s management on-call arrangements and provide appropriate support outside normal working hours when necessary.

About you

You will be an experienced care-home leader who can balance compassionate care with strong operational and regulatory management.

You must have:

Significant management experience within a residential or dementia care-home environment.
Strong working knowledge of CQC regulations and inspection requirements.
Experience of leading and developing a multidisciplinary staff team.
A thorough understanding of safeguarding, medication management, care planning and risk management.
Experience of quality assurance, auditing and implementing improvement plans.
Strong organisational and decision-making skills.
The ability to manage competing priorities and remain calm under pressure.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Confidence in working with residents, relatives, employees, healthcare professionals, commissioners and regulatory bodies.
Good IT skills and experience of electronic care-planning and management systems.
A commitment to delivering safe, dignified and person-centred care.

The following would be highly desirable:

A Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care, an equivalent recognised qualification, or a commitment to obtain the qualification within an agreed timeframe.
Previous experience as a CQC Registered Manager.
Experience of successfully managing, or playing a substantial leadership role within, a residential and dementia care home.
Evidence of achieving, maintaining or contributing towards a Good or Outstanding CQC rating.

Applications may also be considered from exceptional candidates who do not yet hold the Level 5 qualification but can demonstrate substantial relevant management experience and the ability to complete the qualification within an agreed period.

The successful applicant must have the experience, knowledge and personal suitability required to meet the Care Quality Commission’s requirements for registration as Registered Manager.

What we offer

Competitive salary of £50,000–£55,000 per year.
Eligibility to participate in a quarterly KPI-based performance bonus scheme following successful completion of six months’ employment, subject to the terms and measures set by the company.

Working arrangements

This is a full-time, permanent position, normally worked Monday to Friday. However, flexibility will be required to meet the needs of the home, including participation in on-call arrangements and attendance outside normal working hours when necessary.
