Information Officer – Sheffield SENDIAS

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Sheffield SENDIAS (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information, Advice and Support Service) as an Information Officer, working alongside our existing Information Officer within a friendly and supportive team.

SSENDIAS is a statutory service for children and young people aged 0–25 with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), and their parents and carers. We provide free, confidential and impartial information, advice and support across education, health and social care.

This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. As a member of the team, you will be the first point of contact for the service, supporting families, young people and professionals to access information and guidance. You will also play an important role in helping to develop new initiatives and expand the range of information and support available through SSENDIAS.

You will be responsible for maintaining and developing information resources, ensuring that published information remains accurate, accessible and up to date. This includes keeping up to date with developments in SEND legislation, policy, local services, support groups and community events, and sharing information through a variety of digital and social media platforms.

As the first point of contact for many service users, you will handle enquiries by telephone, email and online referral routes, providing information, advice and signposting where appropriate. You will manage referrals into the service, ensuring accurate information is captured and recorded to support the work of Caseworkers and the Young People's Involvement Officer.

The role also involves direct engagement with families, young people and professionals through workshops, webinars, drop-in sessions, coffee mornings, community events and awareness-raising activities. These may take place online or face-to-face across the city in partnership with schools, health services, voluntary organisations and Local Authority teams.

We are looking for someone with excellent communication and customer service skills, experience of handling enquiries sensitively and professionally, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. You will have strong IT and administrative skills, be confident in researching and presenting information, and be committed to supporting children, young people and families.

This is a full-time, permanent position working 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year. We are committed to supporting flexible and hybrid working arrangements, with the role involving a combination of home working, office-based working and attendance at community events, meetings and engagement activities across Sheffield.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
