About Us:
The Garden Company is an award-winning garden design, landscaping, and gardening business that prides itself on delivering high-quality services. We’re currently looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join our small, friendly team and ensure our financial records remain accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with relevant regulations.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a busy, supportive environment and wants to play a key role in a successful business team.

What You’ll Be Doing:
You'll be managing day-to-day financial transactions and providing important updates on our financial performance. Your responsibilities will include:

Recording all financial transactions (sales, purchases, payments, receipts)
Reconciling bank and credit card statements monthly
Maintaining accurate records for accounts payable and receivable
Preparing financial reports, including balance sheets and profit & loss statements
Managing payroll and ensuring accurate tax and wage payments
Producing sales invoices, following up on overdue accounts
Assisting with budgeting and forecasting
Ensuring compliance with tax regulations
Providing general admin support to the Managing Director
Managing CIS Contractors and carrying out monthly CIS returns
Managing VAT returns
Liaising with our accountants when they are producing our year-end accounts

What We’re Looking For:

Proven experience as a bookkeeper or in a similar financial role
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and bookkeeping software (QuickBooks preferred)
Understanding of basic accounting, payroll, and tax requirements
High attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent organizational skills
Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) - including dealing professionally with clients and potential clients
Proactive approach to finding solutions and resolving issues
Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially
Ideally, previous experience in a small business environment
A full UK driving licence (our office is in a semi-rural location with limited public transport)
