Work pattern: Mon - Thurs 9.00-17.00 with half an hour lunch, Fri 9.00-12.30 | £23,447.32 per annum
MK Act is seeking a compassionate candidate to join our refuge team doing dual roles. You will support residents day-to-day, complete assessments, deliver support plans and contribute to a safe, recovery-focused environment. You will also support survivors moving on from refuge into safe, independent housing. The role ensures continuity of care following crisis support, enabling survivors and their children to establish stable homes, access essential services, and maintain long-term safety and wellbeing.
The post holder will work in a trauma informed, person centred way, offering practical, emotional and advocacy support throughout the resettlement process.
Key responsibilities of the Family Support Worker/Resettlemnt Officer:
1. Client Support & Case Management
- Provide tailored one‑to‑one support to survivors preparing to move into new accommodation.
2. Practical Resettlement Support
- Liaise with housing providers, local authorities, and landlords to coordinate move‑on arrangements.
- Support survivors with practical tasks such as setting up utilities, furnishing accommodation, and accessing grants where eligible.
- Work with clients to build routines and structures that promote long-term stability and household management.
3. Multi‑Agency Partnership Working
- Work collaboratively with external partners including Milton Keynes City Council Housing Solutions, social care, health services, schools, and specialist domestic abuse services.
- Represent MK‑ACT in multi‑agency meetings where required
- Advocate for service users to ensure their safety, needs and voices are prioritised within multi‑agency plans.
4. Safeguarding
- Identify and act on safeguarding concerns for adults and children, in line with MK‑ACT policies and statutory guidance.
- Escalate concerns promptly to appropriate safeguarding leads and agencies.
5. Monitoring, Recording & Reporting
- Maintain accurate case notes, risk assessments, support plans, and relevant documentation for monitoring and compliance.
- Contribute to internal reporting requirements and service performance data.
- Ensure confidentiality and data protection compliance in all record‑keeping.
- Complete risk assessments and support plans, ensuring safety planning remains central to all interventions.
- Assist survivors in understanding tenancy rights, responsibilities, and navigating housing-related issues.
- Support clients to access essential services including GP registration, schooling, benefits, employment, education, and community resources.
- Provide emotional support and wellbeing-focused interventions to promote recovery, resilience, and independence.
General responsibilities
- To carry out any administrative tasks necessary to comply with the job description.
- Participate in the 24-hour on call service
- Report repairs and maintenance to BPHA and monitor progress
- Liaise with contractors
- Ensure flat voids are reported and completed within the permitted time frame
- Support volunteers working within the refuge
- Participate in bimonthly case management
- Attend all meetings and training as requested by the Senior FSW / Refuge Manager
- Attend regular S+S sessions
- Ensure that security of information is maintained and complies with the requirements of the Data protection Act
About you:
You are empathetic, organised and confident supporting individuals with varied needs.
Essential Skills:
- Understanding of domestic abuse, coercive control, trauma-informed practice, and the impact on survivors and children.
- Experience supporting vulnerable individuals through case management or resettlement.
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding policies and processes.
- Ability to work independently and manage a caseload effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to work with multiple agencies.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries, handle sensitive information, and remain resilient in demanding situations.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience in housing, social care, domestic abuse services, or specialist advocacy.
- Knowledge of tenancy sustainment, benefits, and local authority processes.
- IDVA/DAPA qualification or willingness to undertake relevant training.
- Additional language skills and an understanding of the needs of GMH communities.
