Breakfast & Brunch Chef

Location: Edinburgh City Centre
Employment: Full-time / Part-time
Pay: £13.5–£16 per hour + tips, depending on experience
Hours: Daytime shifts — no late nights

About Us

We are an independent Edinburgh café serving speciality coffee, breakfast, brunch and fresh, quality food.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Breakfast & Brunch Chef to join our kitchen team as we expand our daytime food offering.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys a busy brunch environment and takes pride in producing consistently good food quickly and efficiently.

The Role

You will be responsible for preparing and cooking breakfast and brunch dishes during service, including:

Pancakes
French toast
Eggs and cooked breakfast dishes
Breakfast and brunch plates
Hot and cold sandwiches
Daily specials
Food preparation and mise en place

You will be expected to work independently during service while maintaining excellent food quality, presentation and speed.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and cook breakfast and brunch dishes to a consistently high standard
Run your section efficiently during busy service
Complete daily preparation and mise en place
Maintain excellent food hygiene and kitchen cleanliness
Follow food safety and allergen procedures
Monitor stock levels and minimise food waste
Ensure ingredients are correctly stored, labelled and rotated
Work closely with the front-of-house team to maintain smooth service
Help maintain consistent recipes, portion sizes and presentation
Assist with developing new brunch dishes and specials
Support and train junior kitchen staff when required
Help with ordering and stock control as experience allows

About You

We are looking for someone who:

Has previous experience in a busy café, brunch, breakfast or restaurant kitchen
Is confident cooking eggs, pancakes, French toast and breakfast dishes
Can work quickly and calmly during busy service
Has good organisational and preparation skills
Understands food hygiene and allergen requirements
Takes pride in presentation and consistency
Is reliable, punctual and positive
Can work independently without constant supervision
Works well as part of a small team

Weekend Availability is Essential

Our busiest periods are at weekends, so regular weekend availability is a must for this role.

We are particularly interested in candidates who enjoy working daytime shifts and are looking for a better work-life balance than traditional restaurant kitchen hours.
