Residential Support Worker (Male Only)

Location: West London
Job Type: Full-Time | Shift Work (including evenings, weekends, sleep-ins and waking nights)

Working Hours

This is a full-time shift-based role. Flexibility is essential, as you will be required to work a rota that includes:

Day Shift: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Sleep-in Shift: 6:00 PM – 10:00 AM (includes an overnight sleep-in which starts from 23pm to 07AM)
wakening Nights
Sleep in Rate will be applied in addition to hourly rate
Evenings, weekends, and bank holidays on a rota basis.
Additional hours may be required in emergency situations to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the young people.

Applicants must be flexible and able to work across all shift patterns.

Join Our Team

We are looking for a passionate, enthusiastic, and experienced Male Residential Support Worker to join our dedicated team in a children's residential home in West London.

This role involves supporting young people aged 8–18 years in a safe, caring, and nurturing environment where they can feel secure, valued, and empowered to achieve positive outcomes.

Please note: This is a Male Only position due to the needs of the young people in our care and is recruited under the Equality Act 2010 (Schedule 9, Occupational Requirement).

About the Role

As a Residential Support Worker, you will:

Build positive, trusting relationships with young people by providing consistent care, support, and unconditional positive regard.
Create a safe, caring, supportive, and nurturing environment where young people feel protected from harm.
Help young people develop self-control by promoting positive behaviour, setting appropriate boundaries, and managing challenging behaviour effectively.
Follow and contribute to individual care and support plans, ensuring they reflect each young person's changing needs.
Act as a Key Worker or Co-Key Worker, ensuring all care plans, records, and outcomes remain up to date.
Provide one-to-one emotional support, guidance, and practical assistance to help young people overcome past and present challenges.
Support young people during times of stress or crisis.
Facilitate group activities and discussions that encourage personal development and independence.
Assist with daily household responsibilities including cooking, cleaning, shopping, and maintaining a welcoming home environment.
Maintain accurate records and prepare reports for reviews, planning meetings, and other professional meetings.
Work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals to achieve the best outcomes for young people.

Working as Part of the Team

You will be expected to:

Work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve the aims and objectives of the home.
Attend and actively contribute to team meetings and supervision sessions.
Share information appropriately to ensure effective communication.
Support colleagues and contribute to a positive team culture.
Give and receive constructive feedback.
Promote safeguarding by raising concerns appropriately through whistleblowing procedures.
Follow all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

Experience working with children and young people aged 8–18 years in a residential childcare setting (essential).
A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable children and young people.
An understanding of emotional and behavioural difficulties.
Knowledge of safeguarding children and young people.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
The ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in challenging situations.
Good report writing and record-keeping skills.
A person-centred approach with a commitment to empowering young people.
Knowledge of equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, sleep-ins, waking nights, and additional hours in emergencies.

Knowledge of Legislation

A good understanding of the following is desirable:

Children Act 1989
Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015
National Minimum Standards
Every Child Matters
Safeguarding legislation and best practice
Other relevant childcare legislation and guidance
