FX Digital is a specialist Connected TV agency, providing a wide range of services, including Product Strategy, Design, Engineering, and Test Automation. We partner with global streaming brands such as Discovery+, BritBox, ATP Media, ITV, and Dyn.
FX Digital runs a device automation lab at the heart of our Quality Engineering practice, testing connected-TV (CTV) and streaming platforms for clients including major broadcasters and streaming providers. As the work grows, we are investing in a dedicated TV Device Lab Technician to own and develop the lab as we scale.
We're looking for a practical, organised and technically minded TV Device Lab Technician to join our Quality Engineering team and take ownership of our Device Testing Lab. You'll play an important role in ensuring our Connected TV applications perform reliably across a wide range of Smart TVs, streaming devices and operating systems.
Working closely with the Quality Engineering and wider FX teams, you'll be responsible for preparing and maintaining the device lab, configuring test equipment, executing test plans, diagnosing issues, and supporting the verification of new software and firmware releases.
This is a hands-on, technical role for someone who enjoys both the practical side — building, wiring, maintaining and troubleshooting real hardware — and the bigger picture of how a lab should run and grow. You will be the single owner of the space: keeping it organised, safe and reliable day to day, while bringing ideas for how we improve and expand it. You will also have the opportunity to help our partners set up labs of their own.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working hands-on with technology, gadgets, consumer electronics and connected devices, while staying up to date with the latest developments in TV and streaming platforms. It suits a natural tinkerer who likes understanding how things work, takes pride in a well-run environment, and wants to shape something as it scales rather than simply maintain it.
Devices & hardware
- Set up and configure new devices as they come into the lab, ready for testing.
- Maintain existing devices — keeping them updated, working and available.
- Make up custom cables as needed and keep cabling neat, labelled and well managed.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware and connectivity issues, escalating where needed.
Lab operations & support
- Own the day-to-day running of the lab — keeping it organised, labelled and tidy.
- Handle support requests within the lab, prioritising and resolving them promptly.
- Field first-line questions about automation support, with the software engineers on hand to help on anything more involved.
- Maintain accurate records of devices and equipment so the lab is traceable and audit-ready.
Networking, monitoring & systems
- Manage the lab network, including UniFi configuration, to keep devices connected reliably.
- Manage the lab's Home Assistant deployment, which we use to monitor and automate the lab environment.
- Monitor lab health - environmental conditions, network, device availability and infrastructure; and act on issues before they cause disruption.
Health & safety
- Take responsibility for health and safety within the lab, ensuring it is a safe place to work.
- Keep equipment, wiring and power managed safely, and address risks proactively.
Partner support
- Help our partners set up and configure labs of their own, on-site where required.
- Represent FX Digital professionally when working with partners.
Improvement & scaling
- Bring forward new ideas to improve how the lab works and what it can do.
- Help plan and deliver the lab's growth as the volume and range of testing increases.
We're looking for someone with a combination of technical knowledge, practical skills, and a genuine enthusiasm for Connected TV technology.
