About the role

GFD Trading is looking for an experienced Key Account Manager to join our head office team in Stockton-On-Tees.

This is a strategic, relationship-focused role. You'll build and protect our most valuable customer relationships, developing a deep understanding of key customers' businesses, identifying growth opportunities and ensuring GFD remains their supplier of choice across multiple product ranges and projects. You'll also handle warm retail leads, no cold calling.

The role suits someone who combines strong commercial awareness with relationship building skills, someone who can think strategically, influence through expertise and work with confidence alongside senior decision-makers.

What you'll do

Build and develop strategic relationships with allocated key accounts (trade and retail)
Handle warm inbound retail leads from customers who have already shown interest
Understand each customer's business, structure, decision-makers and commercial objectives
Identify and pursue opportunities for account growth and product diversification
Support key accounts through major projects and contract negotiations
Provide market intelligence and competitor awareness to the wider team
Coordinate cross-department support to deliver a seamless customer experience
Maintain accurate CRM records and account planning documentation
Escalate commercial risks and opportunities to senior management
Champion GFD's products and services as a trusted advisor

What we're looking for

Proven track record in sales (key account management, business development or strategic sales preferred)
Strong relationship-building skills with ability to influence key decision-makers
Commercial awareness and understanding of business finances and negotiation
Excellent communication skills, confident speaking to senior stakeholders
Strategic thinker who sees opportunities before competitors
Organised approach to planning and CRM discipline
A team player with the drive to grow customer value long-term
Ability to work with autonomy whilst collaborating across departments
Experience in construction, home improvement, building products, trade supplies or retail sectors is an advantage but not essential

Hours

This is a full-time role based at our Stockton-On-Tees head office.

Standard hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Every third week, you'll work Saturday 10:00am to 1:00pm. On those weeks, your Friday hours are 9:00am to 2:00pm. So you finish early on Friday and gain the morning back.
