Residential Childcare Support Worker – Children with Learning Disabilities

The Impact You'll Make

As a Residential Childcare Support Worker, you will be a constant source of stability, encouragement, and care for children who may have faced significant challenges in their lives. Your role will go far beyond meeting daily needs—you will help build confidence, teach life skills, and create joyful moments that shape positive futures. Every day, you’ll see the difference you make in a child’s smile, their progress, and their growing independence.

What You'll Do

Provide day-to-day care, emotional support, and encouragement to children with learning disabilities in a warm, homely environment.
Support children in developing essential life skills—such as cooking, budgeting, and personal care—tailored to their abilities and goals.
Plan and participate in engaging activities, from arts and crafts to community outings, that promote learning, fun, and social interaction.
Work closely with families, social workers, and other professionals to ensure each child’s care plan is followed and adapted as needed.
Maintain accurate records of daily activities, progress, and any incidents, ensuring safeguarding and compliance standards are met.
Assist with educational support, homework, and structured routines that encourage personal growth and achievement.
Respond calmly and effectively to challenging behaviours, using positive behaviour support strategies.

What You'll Bring

A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with learning disabilities.
Patience, empathy, and the ability to build trusting relationships.
Experience in a care, support, or educational setting (residential childcare experience is an advantage but not essential).
Knowledge of safeguarding principles and a commitment to promoting the welfare of children.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins.
A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare) or willingness to work towards it.
