About us

Dr Lavan Ganeshkumar (PhD, UCL) teaches GCSE and A-Level maths and science to hundreds of students through Ganes Academy (London) and Trayna, our adaptive learning app. Trayna launches publicly on 20 August. We record hours of teaching content every week, and we have almost no public distribution. That gap is this job.

What this seat really is

Internally, this is our Growth seat. You start as an editor because the channel is built from edits, but the job you are being hired to grow into is owning how Trayna gets found: the channels, the posting engine, the email list, and the numbers behind all of it. Strong performance here leads to a Growth & Content title and first call on the marketing function as it expands through 2027.

The role, in two phases

Now to launch (August): production-weighted. You join the editing team on our summer content sprint, cutting finished tutorial videos in Premiere to our established templates and AI-assisted workflow (Descript captions, template-driven titles, nothing typed frame-by-frame). Alongside, you build the distribution machine: channel accounts, caption and thumbnail templates, a bank of vertical clips ready to fire, and the posting calendar for launch week.

From launch onward: distribution-led. You own the public content engine:

Cut and post 1-2 vertical clips daily (TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Reels) from teaching footage: hook-first, captioned, on brand
Weekly long-form YouTube uploads (5-10 min cuts) with thumbnails
Run the posting calendar around the academic year (results days, mocks, exam season)
Own the channel numbers: followers, view velocity, profile visits, link clicks, email signups, and trial starts we can attribute to content. You report them weekly and they steer what we clip next
Build and run the email list: capture via free resources, a regular send in Dr Lavan's voice, list growth as one of your KPIs
Triage comments and surface what's worth responding to (Dr Lavan replies personally; you keep the queue moving)
Run content support for launches and campaigns: launch week 20 August, Year 13 rollout in January, GCSE rollout in March

Clear 30/60/90-day targets are agreed at offer, so you always know what good looks like.

One thing to be clear about

The face and voice of this brand are set: every video is Dr Lavan, every reply reads as him. You are the engine that gets that seen, not an on-camera presence. If you want to build something big from behind the camera, this is a rare seat: a genuine zero-to-one channel build with unlimited source material and a real product behind it.

We need

Demonstrable short-form editing: links to vertical content you've cut (any niche; we care about hooks and pacing)
Fluent Premiere Pro plus transcript/caption workflow (Descript or equivalent)
Working After Effects: comfortable using and adapting our motion graphics templates and MOGRTs (animated captions, lower thirds, vertical reformats, renders to spec). You don't need to build complex animation from scratch; you do need to be at home inside AE, not learning it
Working Illustrator for thumbnails and brand asset tweaks
Working understanding of what makes educational and talking-head content perform on TikTok and Shorts
Comfort with numbers: you can read retention curves and view data, and change what you make because of them
AI tools in your current workflow as standard, not experiment
Fast, self-managing, low overhead: you take the week's footage and come back with posted content
Own editing setup (we provide Adobe CC, Claude, and tool subscriptions on passing the task)

Bonus: motion design ability beyond template use; evidence of growing an account from small numbers; maths/science comfort; email/newsletter experience.

Process

Application with links to short-form work you've edited, plus one line: the best-performing piece of educational content you've seen this year and why it worked
Paid practical task (90 minutes, £15/hr): we send ~20 minutes of raw teaching footage; you return two vertical cuts with captions. We're judging hook instinct and speed.
Short interview covering your first 30 days. Offers within 48 hours.
