Full job description

Role Purpose

The Registered Home Manager holds full responsibility for the leadership, management, and regulatory compliance of a children’s residential home. The role ensures that children receive high‑quality, trauma‑informed care within a safe, nurturing, and stable environment that promotes positive outcomes, emotional wellbeing, and long‑term development.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

Provide strong, visible leadership that models professional standards and child‑centred practice.
Manage, supervise, and develop staff to ensure a skilled, motivated, and resilient team.
Oversee rota planning, staffing levels, and workforce development to maintain safe and effective operations.
Lead on performance management, including appraisals, training plans, and disciplinary processes where required.

Regulatory Compliance

Maintain registration with Ofsted as the Registered Manager.
Ensure full compliance with:
Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015
Quality Standards
Working Together to Safeguard Children
Local authority and organisational policies
Prepare for and lead Ofsted inspections, ensuring the home consistently meets “Good” or “Outstanding” standards.
Complete and submit all required reports, including Regulation 45 reports and notifications to Ofsted.

Safeguarding & Risk Management

Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead for the home.
Ensure robust safeguarding culture, policies, and practice.
Oversee risk assessments, behaviour management plans, and safety planning.
Respond appropriately to incidents, concerns, and allegations, ensuring timely reporting and multi‑agency collaboration.

Child-Centred Practice

Ensure each child has an individualised placement plan, risk assessment, and care plan that reflects their needs, wishes, and goals.
Promote trauma‑informed, therapeutic approaches to care.
Champion children’s rights, voice, and participation in decision‑making.
Ensure children’s education, health, emotional wellbeing, and social development are actively supported.

Quality Assurance & Improvement

Implement continuous improvement processes, including audits, monitoring, and action plans.
Analyse data and trends to improve outcomes and reduce incidents.
Ensure the home environment is safe, welcoming, and well‑maintained.

Financial & Operational Management

Manage the home’s budget, resources, and financial planning.
Ensure cost‑effective operations without compromising quality of care.
Oversee referrals, admissions, and transitions, ensuring compatibility and stability within the home.

Partnership & Communication

Build strong relationships with local authorities, social workers, schools, health professionals, and families.
Represent the home professionally in meetings, reviews, and multi‑agency forums.
Ensure clear, accurate, and timely communication and record‑keeping.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or willingness to complete).
Significant experience working in children’s residential care.
Strong understanding of safeguarding, trauma‑informed practice, and regulatory frameworks.
Proven leadership and team‑management experience.
Ability to work under pressure, make sound decisions, and maintain high standards.

Pay: £50,000.00-£62,000.00 per year
